shotguns with "and stay back" perk are much easier for that.  especially the combat and riot shotguns, since you can drop a ton of rounds into the DC pretty quickly.

Yep definitely, but since he was referring to melee encounter. Weight management is another factor to consider in my favorite settings, gauge rounds are considered luxury lol.

I don't know what mods you are using, but in vanilla FNV I can whoop a Deathclaw with a super sledge and melee perks. No need for chems, shotguns, or vats.

I always play vanilla in very hard difficulty and I am a melee expert and let me tell you that Deathclaws drop me in two blows unless I am playing in non hardcore mode and keep pumping stimpacks.

To whoop a deathclaw in

Post by heister » Sat Dec 27, 2014 3:26 pm

To whoop a deathclaw in vanilla very hard difficulty with melee + without VATS + sober. you will need following

1. level 24 with all needed perks

2. Chance's Knife

3. Shovel or Nephi's Golf Driver or 9 iron.

4. some good timing.

When you are face to face with it, 2h special attack it with any 2h weapon from #3(100% chance to knockdown), have to get used to the distance and timing though. if it uses normal 1 hand to attack you, your special is always faster. If it charges to you from far and perform 2 hands special on you, strafe sideway, 2h special attack from sides.

The idea is once it's down, it's down forever, keep knocking it down and swap to use Chance's Knife to slice it.

Unarmed special move Ranger Takedown can use this idea too.

I usually do not play without chems (why?). But I think that with Slayer + Melee Hacker + Ain't Like That Now + Super Slam + Turbo/GRX; using Oh Baby! you can easily defeat a deathclaw on Very Hard. You just need to know when to dodge and when to swing.

I managed to kill my first

Post by Risewild » Wed Dec 31, 2014 2:12 am

I managed to kill my first Deathclaw at level 14 wearing no armor and using the Stabhappy combat knife during my Naked Knife Challenge run on very hard and hardcore. All I did was use a turbo, buffout and attack (have the Super Slam of course).

Turbo is another interesting off-topic talk, does this perks combo means drug users rule the wastelands?

TTW optional bobbleheads(Medicine) + Chem Resistant + Old World Groumet...Or even Brainless/Big Brained

How much is that resistance ?

I love turbo. I run my ass

I love turbo. I run my ass over to Jack and Diane to learn the recipe as soon as possible and will deal with the addiction if I have to. Turbo is like an I win button, especially if you have all the chem duration increase perks.

I think in balancing you're all forgetting that DR applies before DT. So if you have 50% DR, you can reduce a 30 blow to 15, and then start chopping it's damage down with your DR much more effectively. This also means you can but a 20 damage blow down to 1 instead of down to 4 with appropriate amounts of DT and DR.

Having easier access to DR without drugs honestly skews a lot, that is why in FNV the hardiest of enemies still only have 30.
