Is Vortex still viable for 3.3?
I never liked MO2, spent hundreds of hours using Vortex and massively preferring it. Tried to get it up and running again today but nothing happened? The game just launches default New Vegas for some reason? Ive double checked my installs and made sure I had the required mods but nothing was missing. So now my big question is if TTW is even able to work in any mod manager besides MO2 now. I'd rather just miss out entirely than use MO2 to be entirely honest.

I don't know if Vortex will support overwriting the main game esms, if it does then there is no reason you cannot use it.
We simply don't provide any support for it, because none us uses it. I personally and other team members, find vortex very cumbersome and annoying to use the same way you find MO2.
3.3 doesn't allow installing to the base game folder anymore either, it wants a mod folder. So you can adjust the guide to vortex where needed.

Re: Is Vortex still viable for 3.3?
It's as viable for 3.3 as it was for 3.2.2, but still depends on the user being skilled enough with Vortex to install the mod correctly on their own. Evidently that is not the case for you or it would be working already, and nobody in the community offers support for Vortex as nobody uses it, so my advice would be to follow the installation guide on Mod Organizer 2. If you have any questions or concerns while following it we have a Discord where you can get 24/7 support. If that doesn't work for you then the "missing out entirely" option might be your best shot, since you were so honest about it.

Re: Is Vortex still viable for 3.3?
Takes a deep breath...
This is my own two sense and what I believe.
Many of the answers are that nobody uses vortex here and to prefer using mod organizer but the same argument could be made that mod organizer might not be easier for people to use than vortex.
Okay so I tried to download vortex or the new update for it and well they made a little bit of a change to it I kind of had to go back and forth with some of the moderators on the discord to kind of figure out okay so this mod or a bunch of these mods it says are incompatible with each other how do I fix this luckily they said to go into the manage rules and organize it the way I want don't use the never use this with this selection.
Listen I've used vortex for years ever since they brought it out because it was an updated version of the Nexus mod manager.
I understand everyone who has worked on the new update has been hard at work has done amazing work and you all should be commended in fact I thank you all for continuing to work on it a while back I did submit ideas for The point lookout DLC I'm like why give us an item the gas grenades if there's no way to replicate it they should have changed the quest to offer you a recipe that will allow you to constantly make more of the gas grenades because what are they just grenades filled with the gas from the soil so why not can I use the punga plants to make such a gas grenade. Methane.... I think that's what it was but I'm getting off topic sorry.
I will say this vortex and mod organizer are two completely different mod managers they act completely different you work with them completely different on the left side we have people that have used the original Nexus mod manager for a few years and then make the transition over to vortex because it's like the previous month manager with just with some new upgrades but on the other hand some people have said ..smart organizer is a lot more convenient and less of a hassle but I have tried to fiddle with it today and I can just say I don't think it's easier I think it's more convenient the more modding and more technical skills you have.
So mod organizer is more methodical if you have the skill but vortex is more for beginners and people who have kind of had a little bit of my experience but never really drove deep into like the dark net area of modding.
I wouldn't list some pros and cons of vortex versus mod organizer since this is a discussion about it but I just don't have the time. Even right now it is 1:45 a.m. the only reason I'm up so late is because I work almost a full-time job and most weeks I only have about one day off and tomorrow's my day off so I'm just kind of browsing around.
I know I don't really get a good rep here and in no way am I trying to start anything or cause any trouble I just saw that this was open for discussion and I wanted to add in my opinion on the matter. I like to cast my vote for vortex I think it's similar to Nexus manager honestly it could use a lot more upgrades but only time will tell truly which mod manager will reign supreme..
I think we really should get some people who work on vortex to kind of come on to the team and maybe let's see if they can kind of help us add in vortex support it's just well I'm not trying to tell no one what to do but just modding and video games allow you to play things your way your play style how you even get the games onto the platform you want to be up to you there is no only one way to do something when it comes to PC gaming there's a multitude of ways.
So should we have maybe more than one kind of option for installing this I mean with the previous version there was more than one option you could kind of well you kind of had really one way but like it felt a little bit more simplified.
Speaking of which I want to thank you all for the new update I got to ask do you think this might be the final update I mean if it is it's totally fine I know that y'all want to make everything as close to Canon as y'all can without too much independent creativity LOL but thank you all for this amazing update

Re: Is Vortex still viable for 3.3?
The problem is that ttw is not for beginners, despite someone here may claim otherwise. The problem is that to install ttw correctly is a proof of medium level of competence for players with mods in the 1st place.
Self example: before playing ttw i was a fnv player with mods for years. But to install it , 3.22, to the point of launching and enter chargen state is a week of works for me. I have to learn to use mo2 entirely due to ttw. And even then i still have problems with mo2 and ttw for weeks later due to my own errors. Yes, i did follow the guide. Yes i still had problem after that entirely my own.
So git gud, and learn more... are two very valid advices of my own in matter relating to ttw. If you are not good enough to learn to use mo2, you are really not suitable to play ttw. The whole thing will be overwhelming for you. You are not paid to deal with that kind of complexity for your play time, believe me.
No, not able to play ttw is not the end of anything. Pure fallout3 has a lot of big mods not yet converted to ttw and play f3 just for playing mods is very valid reason. Again, you also can play fnv with big mods not yet converted to ttw. Iam speaking of total conversion like dust. Or obscurum.

It works just have a separate mod folder extract it all then rar it and put it in vortex as a mod
