One reason i dont nitpick on the 1 month thing is:

Tobar is a merchant. Always has been for me. Which mean a trip down river is not a boat taking passenger. More like US hitch hiking on a boat transport punga to every communities from dc down to plo. So yes, of course it take a month.
No, it doesn't. Take a look at a map of Fallout's East Coast - the route the caravans take around the CW is LONGER than the route Tobar takes to PLO. If he makes the same number of stops, it will take less time than it takes a single caravan to come back around to stopping at one place, like Megaton... about a week. He's also not walking - he's on a boat going with the flow of the river - toward the bay. If it were coming back, I'd buy adding an extra couple days. In any case, there's no possible way he could be taking 30 days to go from the CW to PLO, even with twice as many stops as the CW caravans, which is highly unlikely.

The difference between tobar and 4 merchants is his heavy cargo. He carry atleast 10 tons of punga if not more. While the four just carry things on a brahmin, half a ton at best.

He doesnt just go to a settlement, tell the chief: here is punga cargo, get your men unloaded it pronto, i will get off next morning. No, it doenst work like that post apocalypse. At least, in the book of a storyfag like me it doesnt.

What it should work, fallout style, is this: duchess arrived at citadel dock, tobar send message to his contact, say quartermaster durga, durga might take a day to meet him because post apocalypse, mang~ then confirmed trading deal this time, it would take a few days to unload cargo and loading his traded goods because manpower is not at their fingertips. Say 5 days at least for a stop like citadel. With smaller settlement it could take a week.

Sure, one month is too freaking long. But totally in-lore.

You might want to mod to shorten it, but dont shift the blame saying 1 month is impossible.

It works exactly like that. Look at the caravans. They arrive NEAR a settlement and go "here we are, come and get it." And then they wait for people to come to them... for a few hours, and then they're off to the next stop. They don't bring the goods to Moira or any of the other merchants in Megaton, they've got to go out to them. Tobar is almost assuredly the same way - he pulls up in port and rings his ship bell. People who want to trade come running as Tobar doesn't leave his ship (except to chop open people's heads :D ). He does wait longer, at least. While the caravans wait a few hours (unless it's night), Tobar probably waits a few days. And I don't think there's nearly as many stops along the way as you think. In the entire CW, there's one single stop: right near the Citadel. He doesn't stop for every Podunk settlement in the waste.

A realistic explanation why the trip takes a month? The devs were lazy. It was easier to advance the date a month than an arbitrary number of days.

The original dock location is to wait for unloading on Rivet City.

The dock in front of citadel gate is obvious.

The docks with Potomac Fisherman is possibly for grayditch settlement

The dock in whilhelm wharf is possibly for Megaton.

The dock near Hamilton hideaway with a big group of raider is possibly the last stop to supply inland settlements.

And he never goes to any of those. So in your opinion, the boats should probably change docks every few days while in the CW. I could see that. That's also probably beyond the remit of TTW, but it would make a nice patch. Rather than wait at the one dock until you start the DLC, it should stop at each dock coming in, waiting a few/several days at each, stop at each going out, then be gone for a couple months. It would then be back. If you don't get it before it leaves, you'll have to wait to start the DLC.

Fallout3 even has a few mods dealing with boat ride.

Mind you, messing with critical char like Tobar is a bad idea. But you could maybe messing with Catherine. Like, making her boat drifting through dock scenes in place of actual travel, cause i dont want riverside hostiles chasing her.

With that it provide a different perspective on why and how Nadine sneak away with Tobar, then kill him and take his Duchess.
