Missing audio

Post by CurbsideCombo » Thu Feb 06, 2020 3:44 am

On TTW 3.2.2

Using Steam FNV and FO3 GOTY, win10, AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, 32gb ram, GTX 1080. Happens using no additional mods. Using MO2's TTW instance, load order is MO's fixed order.

Load order:
  • Fallout NV.esm
  • Deadmoney.esm
  • HonestHearts.esm
  • OldWorldBlues.esm
  • LonesomeRoad.esm
  • GunRunnersArsenal.esm
  • Fallout3.esm
  • Anchorage.esm
  • ThePitt.esm
  • BrokenSteel.esm
  • PointLookout.esm
  • Zeta.esm
  • CaravanPack.esm
  • ClassicPack.esm
  • MercenaryPack.esm
  • TribalPack.esm
  • TaleOfTwoWastelands.esm
  • YUPTTW.esm
Specifically, every single conversation with a NPC is missing audio, but not ambient dialogue. Various UI sounds are missing, equipping/unequipping gear, opening some containers (drawers, radroaches, dead bodies, but not first aid boxes). Music is present, the dialogue in the prologue fast forwards is there, along with all the sounds I can remember, but the Mr Handy buzzsaw sound is missing. Gun sounds are there, reload sounds are there, melee combat sounds are there. Reran the installer, repatched it, same effect. I haven't gotten too deep into the game yet, because this bothers me immensely.

Already re-installed, and re-patched the install. Started new game (same problems). Might try clearing out FO3 and FNV installs, and getting fresh files from steam, and re-installing MO2 and everything from scratch on my next day off, but I have a sneaking feeling it won't do anything.

Clear out all the old crufty Windows codecs and make sure you have an up-to-date set of codecs, especially the ogg codecs. Make sure the folders are all not read-only. Make sure to run the installer as admin. Make sure your AV is off while running the installer. Don't run the installer from inside MO2. Point the installer destination to a temporary folder. Be sure to run BOTH updates. When that's finished, archive that temp folder. Inside MO2, install that archive like a normal mod. Be sure to not forget about the ini files created/changed by the installer - they go into the profile folder inside the MO2 data folder.

Don't forget to update JIPLN. Don't forget to install NVAC. If you run Windows 10, many people have trouble to NVSR - try NVTF (Tick Fix) if you're one of those.

Actually, I think it's a weird driver issue with Voicemeeter. I was almost ready to rock in a new windows install (I almost had to after upgrading to the ryzen earlier this year), but then I remembered that Voicemeeter isn't something everyone uses, so I killed that and repointed windows directly to my speakers, and voila! it works just fine. Maybe at a later date I'll futz around with drivers and options for it, but it seems solely to be a local issue, not one with the installer/mod.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. That's definitely one to keep recorded in case someone else runs into the same thing.
