Audio Issues

Post by dearman4 » Sun Apr 07, 2019 12:17 pm

Any NPC voices when talked to are not playing, but the regular general dialogue when walking by characters plays just fine. Also, VATS sounds and the sound effects accompanying using items like Stimpacks are also absent.

This happened with the vanilla install but I skimmed the FAQ's incompatible mods and I didn't see any of mine. I have also edited the .ini file using the directions on the FAQ, here is my .ini file:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/96er3zka00wmq ... t.ini?dl=0

I have Fallout New Vegas installed in my D:\SteamLibrary directory, I don't know if it HAS to be in the Program Files (x86) folder or not

My system specs are:

Code: Select all

Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Intel Core i7 7700K @ 4.20GHz
16.0GB RAM
MSI Z270 PC MATE (MS-7A72) (U3E1) Motherboard
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (MSI)
232GB Western Digital WDC WDS250G1B0A-00H9H0 (SSD)
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-22MFCA0 (SATA)
here's my load order:

Code: Select all

If I missed any crucial information, I do sincerely apologize, I tried to include anything I could think would be relevant. Also I hand typed the load order so if there are any typo's, that's my bad!

Just downloaded and installed DirectX 9 June 2010 redist from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=8109 and I used the Device Manager to update my audio drivers (all the items in both the "Audio inputs and outputs" and the "Sound, video and game controllers" lists) by rightclicking>Update Driver and then clicking the "Search automatically for updated driver software" option.

No change, same problem :(

please open the run box and type %localappdata% , then go to the FalloutNV folder and copy/paste plugins.txt here

Avast and Malwarebytes are also known to interfere with audio in the game, as well as codec packs like CCCP and K-Lite

I use Avira for my anti-virus and this machine has never had Avast or Malwarebytes installed, I am unaware of any codec packs I have other than LAME for use with Audacity and anything MPC has auto-installed

CloseMenuHotkey.esp <- get rid of this mod, too easy to break your game with it, especially in Fallout 3, there are a lot of Say Once dialogues.

what is NoPerk

As for audio problems... no idea what the issue could be unless Avira deleted the ogg/vorbis dll's our installer installs.

Tried uninstalling CloseMenuHotkey, same issue.

NoPerk is what it sounds like, it allows you to pick NO perk on levelup, I'm planning a challenge run stream with no perks so that's why I have it.

I just checked the files included in the 7z archive and they're all there, next thing to try would be a complete reinstall, but I looked at my Anti-Virus and it had no record of any file alerts recently and it normally holds any potentially malicious files in a Quarantine section detailing their discovered location, threat level, etc. so I don't think there were any false positives in the installer files.

I really appreciate your help with this by the way, worst case scenario I can live without the additional sounds, I just wanted to try everything I could before setting out on this stream I'm planning, not the end of the world :)

Hate to jump in here randomly.
I have the exact same problem, Random voices dont work and others do, some ambient audio doesnt work only effects fallout 3 npcs and areas. I installed ttw 3.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2. All at the same time and started a new game. I dont have anti virus or anything similar to what he does. Just wanted to let you know this isnt a problem related to his computer or antivirus.

I'm kind of relieved that it's not just me tbh... There has to be something we are both doing, are there any similarities to your setup to mine? I've posted a lot but please check to see if there's something common between our setups

What mod manager are you guys using.

Did you delete the .override files? If so, restore them.

Are you sure sArchiveList is in the FalloutCustom.ini ? You may need to copy that line to Fallout.ini depending on what manager you are using.

MO2 fully supports FalloutCustom.ini so it should work that, but I've heard Vortex and NMM can have issues with it.
