Well no problem. I'm going to assume that others like me misunderstood the bug where they thought you just couldn't get rl3. I'm just glad I was able to describe the issue in better detail than others.

I know this is an old thread, but google searches for this issue still pull it up. Mostly I just want to make a note for anyone searching this in the future (including possibly, me). You cannot imagine how long it took me to figure this out. If you have dogmeat as a companion when you try and purchase RL-3 it doesn't tell you to dismiss dogmeat. Instead all you get is the line about "he doesn't like the look of you'. Implying there is an issue with Karma even if your Karma is correct (neutral). So if you thought you could have RL-3 and dogmeat at the same time you would be mistaken.

It's very misleading about what the problem is, since I had never had RL-3 as a companion I did not know he replaces dogmeat instead of taking the regular companion slot. Thus in every playthrough over the years, by the time I got to the Robco building I already had dogmeat with me and I received the "he doesn't like the look of you" line, making me think it was bugged. It never occurred to me that I needed to dismiss dogmeat until literally just now.

I have been testing RL-3 hiring today. And it works properly in TTW 3.2.1 without mods.
