Using Mod Organizer to have multiple profiles

Post by CryptykNumidium » Sun Oct 22, 2017 10:22 pm

So, I used FOMM, as I always have, to install TTW and all the other mods I wanted along with it a while back.

I've progressed quite far into the game now, and don't particularly want to lose anything or break the saves.

But I want to try Dust out again. I was going to just manually back up this install onto my desktop and fresh install in the defualt place, but again, worrier about breaking the save, and hard drive space is limited.

So I decided to use MO because it has multiple profiles. However, when I set up a default profile with its own saves and default settings, and fired it up, and got a black screen, even after waiting for a decent amount of time.

So, what do?

If you want to switch to MO

If you want to switch to MO you're going to have to start from scratch. You'll need to have a clean FNV install and reinstall all your mods through MO as it uses a virtual file system rather than placing files into the FNV data directory. If you try to just run MO over top of an already modded game folder you're going to have a lot of problems.

Well, yes and no. MO does

Well, yes and no. MO does prefer to have all the Data folder clean but it should not give a black screen if you do have mods in it.

If you completely install TTW and all your mods fresh the EXACT same order of plugins must be used in order for the saves to work properly. MO should give you some feedback though about what plugins are missing if you mouseover a save in the 'Saves' tab.

To be clear this is a new game with DUST installed on top, not using the saves from before and installing on top of it?

I'm a firm believer in using MO but it does seem like an overkill to switch managers just to try out a mod. You could always just archive your current saves, install DUST and try it and then remove it later and restore your old saves.
