Do you need to make merge patches for Eve to work with TTW and WMX

I've had this issue where centaur and  super mutants in fallout 3 have a red exclamation mark error when they turn into a incinerated mutant corpse or ash pile. I used to get it on every enemy until I deactivated every eve patch I had then reactivated them in reverse order and it somehow fixed most of the errors :D . I'm asking because the comparability patch said a friendly reminder to make a merge patch always and I'm just making sure that is the issue just in case I didn't go wrong somewhere else.
