New to TOTW - lots of stupid questions

Post by Arkngt » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:26 pm

I'm new to TOTW and the installation seems to have gone perfectly. It's an amazing project and I was very impressed by the installer as well.

Anyway, I have and will probably get even more questions about getting mods to work with TOTW , so I thought I'd cram all stupid questions into one thread.

1. Wrye Bash complains about unrecognized headers for the converted F3 esm's - I guess it's just to let it complain and do nothing about it?

2. As it seems the Fallout New Vegas install folder is the main folder now, I guess I should install, for example, the GNR Enhanced resources into it if I want to use it - or rather the GNR Enhanced TOTW conversion. The same for my GBs worth of textures replacers in Fallout 3 - should I install the Fallout 3 version of NMCs pack in FNV instead? Etc.

3. Is there a converted version of Realistic Lighting Overhaul or, even better, Xepha's Darkened Interiors?

Well, that's it for now! Thanks in advance for any answers.

1. Ignore it I guess.  We don't support Wyre bash for Fallout mod management.  We recommend the latest version of FOMM or Mod Organizer.  See https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/alpha-download-v294a#Installation

2. TTW is a mod for New Vegas.  Once the TTW installer is done, nothing is done to your Fallout 3 folder.  All other mods should be installed in Fallout New Vegas, and you play TTW by launching Fallout New Vegas.  For your other questions on NMC: https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/faq#texturepacks

3. Yes, I think.  I don't know what mod that is though.  There is a search function in the upper left of the site as well.  Search for Realistic Lighting and you'll probably find what you're looking for.

Wrye Bash is intentionally

Post by RoyBatty » Fri Jun 26, 2015 9:12 pm

Wrye Bash is intentionally made to not work with TTW by Sharlikran afaik because he believes the project is somehow illegal or some other nonsense. xEdit Merge patches are recommended by us.

Just check the forums for converted and specifically made mods for TTW.

I've also made a basic tutorial on converting them if you have minor skill with FNVEdit and GECK.

RIL has indeed been converted and merged. Xepha's has interiors not afaik. Personally I'm waiting for ILO F3/TTW edition.

Most texture stuff for F3 will work just fine, some stuff is shared though so be aware of that. Particular things to watch are terrain, rock, road textures. It is possible to make it so they don't clash , but it would require a lot of mesh work to change the texture paths and/or rename the textures. The scripts I made for NMC reduce clashes to a minimum and also remove redundant/useless files, however a couple thousand of them do not have mipmaps and I'm waiting for Adonis to document which ones before I try to make some kind of script to deal with that via nvidia texture tools.

Enjoy your stay, and have fun playing TTW.

Thanks! Missed that in the FAQ (about texture packs).

Sorry, I meant Realistic Interior Lighting and I found the conversion.

Thanks, RoyBatty, missed your post before - we must have posted at the same time.

Yes, I've already converted an F3 mod - it was really easy with the script and guide. I'll convert my small mods and make a release thread covering them all when its done. So far, it has gone much smoother to switch to TOTW than I thought. Guess I'll miss MMM most of all - my other favorite mods either seem to be converted - or it's easy to make your own conversions if not.

Yet another stupid question: how does leveledlists work in TOTW? Are they shared between the wastelands or are they separate, i.e. if I use Classic Fallout Weapons - New Vegas, will those be used by Super Mutants in both wastelands?

not everything in the CW uses NV leveled lists.

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.

OK, thanks, guess I'll check with FNVEdit. Perhaps one could do a merged version, but I haven't worked much with leveledlists.

EDIT: Right, I found the Classic Fallout Weapons TTW, which integrates everything. Excellent! :)

Yes, that's wonderful. I missed MMM immediately when restarting the game w/o it. In fact, I think all my major favorites are converted. Next up - installing EVE with patch etc.
