UI is small white squares, for the most part

Post by Jaxx » Thu Sep 10, 2015 3:50 am

Basically, I tried to install oHud a little while ago, but it completely broke everything even though I thought I had done everything correctly by using MO's ui replacement and then adding UnifiedHUD's process after to unify my UI, along with Project Nevada and some other minor but supported UI additions. That completely broke my UI and made all my main gameplay UI into small white squares, apart from a few exceptions like "Search" then followed by 1 white square for every line of text that would be there, ie one if it was a container, two if it was empty, as it would also display "[EMPTY]" normally. I also broke container views where it didn't show actually anything in containers, and it just blurred the screen and prevented me from exiting or doing basically anything. I wiped my .ini files and it fixed the container view, but my main UI is still mostly small white squares. I'd really appreciate any help or guidance as I'm basically a moron about mods and anything that's in-depth technically, so all assistance is good :)

I think that's from interface

I think that's from interface texture not having mipmaps (different scales of the texture) and you're not at full resolution. Are you using an interface texture replacer, like vault girl, thin hud, etc?

At the moment, no, but the only thing I had that changed UI would have been Pipware. I know it had to do with oHud coming in and messing stuff up, because I can't even get my UI to work with the mods and configuration of what I had previously, which worked fine.

Not sure but I didn't see Darnified ui in your load order. It should be installed first before any other UI mods. However, I don't use MO anymore so I don't know a lot about it. If your using JIP's NVSE Plugin Mod you shouldn't need Unified Hud. O Hud should be installed after your other UI mods, but before Unified Hud.

If you're using a mod manager

Post by pintocat » Thu Sep 10, 2015 1:22 pm

If you're using a mod manager, uninstall your interface mods and see if you get the plain vanilla xml's back. They all edit xml's, and you'll want to try to start back from ground zero with vanilla files. They're the ones in the \data\menus\ folders.

I'm not sure why I need to install a completely different, unwanted UI mod for other unrelated UI mods to work. And I did install oHud properly, or at least I followed the directions to a T, and it still broke my UI so I didn't bother with it.

Alright, I'll try that. Hm....is is possible someone could put their vanilla xml's in dropbox or somewhere similar? If not, I'll just move my whole data folder and redownload them.

If you're not using a mod

Post by pintocat » Fri Sep 11, 2015 6:05 pm

If you're not using a mod manager, you should start. If you are using one, then deactivating mods installed with it should restore any overriden files with the originals the manager backed up. Install instructions for UI mods will also vary slightly depending which mod manager you use. But if you manually install UI mods without a mod manager, you're going to have a bad time. I think you're going to need to re-download the menu files from steam... we can't condone sharing original game files.. sorry

The Menus folder is in a BSA file. All you have to do to get them back to default is delete the menus folder in your data folder.

I don't guess you need Darnified either. I was always under the impression that it should be added before any UI mods however I could be wrong about that? All I know is that is the way I installed them in FOMM and one hud and unified hud as well as many other UI mods all work for me.

DarN is not mandatory, it's just the most popular of the 3 hud overhauls.
