Difficult Game based on Arwen's NV Realism mod suggestion help

Post by tony1420 » Wed Nov 12, 2014 4:31 pm

Hello, so brief back round. I played FONV for quite a bit but i hit a point where it was far to easy and the hardcore component of eating and drink were just irrellevant. I was looking for mods and ran into this one but did not have fO3 at the time so i just waited granted missed a sale or two but got it on steam so now i am coming back with avengence.

So i seen Arwen's NV realism mod and it looks like the mod for me. I picked up the patch for this mod on the forums but there doesn't seem to be much talk about it so in general i would like to know mods that fit well with this one and the theme of making the game difficult but also having it make sense for the difficulty not just adding like a lot of hp or something.

So currently have both games with all the dlcs, tales of two wastelands, the unofficial fixes.

I would like to know if the reduced xp  from the optional tale of two wastelands works with Arwen's since there is a exp reduction in that mod and if it is even recommended to use both at the same time. I read a few post saying how by default one would max out way before hitting NV.

I did read about project nevada and the bullet time stuff didn't really impress me or rather i would like to not go off to much from the core idea of the game. I did play with nevada skies in NV but night time felt more like a hindrance then anything else maybe i should of added another mod to compensate? The item in the game(forgot name) that allows you to see in the dark were far in between, the sand storms were amazing though.

Hoping i can get a set of mods that will make the experience enjoyable without the need to make mod changes at any point in the game.

Thank you for your time and without mods i would have never have picked FO3 after my experience with NV.

Hello, Tony

Hello, Tony

A lot of questions:

-for Arwen's I tested the xp reduction from TTW. It works but It think that the xp reduction from Arwen's could be a good thing to try because the xp rises too fast with arwen's and TTW optional xp redction plugin.

-Arwen's + PN is compatible please see Arwen's notes about it.

-Arwen's + TTW needs to have compatibility patch for weapons and food.

-For weather mods there is a lot of them that works with TTW... Do you plan the use of ENB?

Hope it will help you

 Sorry i am not fully

Sorry i am not fully understanding what your saying or most likely i was not clear in my questioning.

-So arwen xp reduction works with the optional xp reduction but even then the xp rates are to high? What would be a good way to go about this if that is the case? Reduce xp further ? or increase level cap?.

-I had ment that i did not want to use mods like project nevada if someone was thinking of suggesting it.

-Downloaded a patch https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/req-compatibility-patch-arwens-nv-realism-tweaks-and-ttw which you posted, is there another patch i need after that?

- for nevada skies i was asking if their is a way to better approach night time maybe through mods because it was more of a problem i couldn't find a better way to play during that time in game. There is that item that allows you to see in the dark but they were fairly hard to find and not in much supply through venders. If not i'll play without it.

Not going to use enb's since from what i see they are mostly re-textures not better models

Hi tony,

Hi tony,

Sorry about the misunderstanding.

- The patch that I uploaded was meant to use Arwen New vegas with TTW. Without it the installation quest from arwen will not trigger in DC. If you start in NV you dont't need it.

-You must understand that Arwen deeply changed the game mechanics: Sleep, eat, drink, guns... TTW is adding guns, food etc. I am working on a patch that will apply the right effect of arwen to TTW. You can still play TTW without major issues.

-For XPs, it is a matter of taste. With arwen you can chose the rate that you desire in the option menu in you pip boy.

-For nevada skies... I understand that the night are too dark. Yes there is alternatives, project Nevada have a lot of night vision helmets etc. There is flalight NVSE to try too.

-For the ENB, it is not "re-texturing" it add color palette, shadows and light control. Highly customizable but will take more resources. With ENB you can adjust the light from day time, night time and inside too. It can help a lot to give ambiance and realism to the game.

Hope it helped you.

Just FYI: With the official TTW XP plugin xp gain is roughly equal to vanilla at low levels. At higher levels it's much more steep. Level 50 with that plugin requires the amount of XP it would take to level to 100 in vanilla, if that were possible.

I agree that the exponential xp gain of ttw plugin is the best option available.

I'd like a slower xp gain at start thought.

P.S.: with the rookie penalty from Arwen, the xp curve from TTW optional plugin is perfect!

I don't suppose I could ask

Post by MarchUntoTorment » Thu Nov 13, 2014 4:23 am

I don't suppose I could ask for a version of the XP reduction mod where the alteration isn't quite so exponential?

As it is, it takes about 100 hours to hit Level 50 in NV, which is ideal for NV itself, but is problematic for TTW, since (the way I play it) it takes about 180 hours to clear both games and all DLC. To my mind, the player should reach max level at about the end of the storyline.

But the idea of needing 300+ hours of gameplay to reach Level 50 doesn't much appeal to me. Therefore, would it be possible to request another version of the XP reduction mod which is about halfway between the vanilla and the current XP reduction - or is there a simple way to edit the values myself?

Not sure if I should've posted this as its own topic, or in here. Either way, help is appreciated!

where are you getting the 300

Post by JaxFirehart » Thu Nov 13, 2014 5:18 am

where are you getting the 300 hours to get to level 50 with the XP reduction plugin?

If you assume it takes twice as much time then it would take 200 hours, which is pretty close to your 180 hrs.

Adjusting the values is easy, load it in the GECK, find the TTWXpReduction perk. It has a different effect for each level range. The effect is a multiplier on the amount of XP you receive, so it starts at 90% from level 10 - 17, and decreases by 10% every 6 or 7 levels until the multiplier is 30% at lever 49 and up. Simply open each effect and modify it as you would like, maybe changing the multiplier to only decrease by 5% every step.
