Capital Wasteland - LOD Generation Issues

Post by DarkValor » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:56 am

Hi all,

UPDATE: This is a document of my effort to convert an unnoticed gem that's on the Fallout 3 Nexus to work with Tale of Two Wastelands. As you can see it adds a huge amount of atmosphere to the DC City Ruins. It will be released soon on TTW provided the original author approves (which I now have).

You'll also notice that the images steadily improve in quality as my ability to generate LOD does .

The test version is here: https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/taller-dc-skyscrapers

(More work is needed on the LOD, but I think I will something a little better than the retarded GECK --- because it literally cannot building DCWorld09 properly (vanilla or otherwise)).

----

Does this look right??

Or do I need to generate the wasteland LOD? (because it keeps asking me for a mesh called 'Data\Meshes\Water_Placeable\Water_Bathtub_lod.nif')... stupid thing.

Cheers,

Dark.

...and another... and as you can see it ends up looking like this............. the LOD buildings might need some retexturing I think.... =/

(oh, and i'm using NMC, so that's probably why the LOD buildings look really, really retarded...)

Yeah... something definitely wrong with the LOD... it appears the DC city area LOD is affecting the Capital Wasteland..........

New LOD... with much thanks

New LOD... with much thanks to RoyBatty and sesom... (which now looks a heck of lot more correct).

Update: And was actually happening because I was stupid enough not to copy the two building LOD files in the wasteland folder that GECK generated.... (good job me!)

Save your lod textures as 32 bit .tga in your source folder to make sure alpha channels are preserved.

And now... fixed for real

And now... fixed for real (see the yellow windows? that was being done by GECK, had to manually edit the LOD textures).

I'll release it sometime this week if the author is OK with it and along with the corrected LOD (out of time until next weekend).

Cheers,

Dark.

I'm pretty sure it did that; I've been using Paint.net and the previews were preserving the alpha channels (but I double checked). It appears to have crept in through the LOD generation process.

Thanks for suggesting though (I've resaved the offenders just in case :))

Dark.

TrickyVein, after going through my textures again... this was the result:

Capital Wasteland Skyscrapers

Much better by far.

Thanks,

Dark.

RLE Compression was causing issues; I should've checked before I started converting the images.

Anyway, I'll put the mod up once the original author gives the green light. Unfortunately I can't send a PM in Nexus with my account for some reason so I've left a message on the Comments thread.

If I don't see a reply after a reasonable amount of time I'll consider making it available for people to use here if the TTW Team thinks that's OK (but if the original author doesn't approve, I'll take it down).

Cheers,

Dark.
