Looking for Definitive Mod picking advice!

Post by Babyface » Tue Oct 28, 2014 12:17 am

Hello all!

I've been running ttw for a very long while now, but i'm thinking of restarting a new Fallout playthrough altogether, because my last playthrough was starting to crumble under the weight of various mods, both because of the amount used (i was getting those texture missing bright pink skin errors) and the various clashing/redundant mods (like different body types mods, or texture mismatching.)

Long story short, ill be going with a clean install of all my mods and the games. I'm looking for various mod advice from people with experience in the compatibility and use. I havent played FO in about a year-ish, so im not sure exactly what mods are out there now. im guessing that topic has been brought up again and again, but i havent seen any recent one and im looking for the latest infos.

My usual criterias are as follow. I really enjoy:

-Increased spawns, monster diversity (lore-friendly, however. Im big on lore-friendly :P)

-Mostly vanilla gameplay but with better end-game level challenge (i try to always power level to get all the cool ''perks'' and speech/conversation inducing stats to 100. Usually by the time i get there, game gets easy as all hell.)

-Loving well fleshed out, preferably voiced companions. I had willow and Niner before, looking for more if any.

-Anything that beautifies the game in general, particularly NPCs and the like... i used to run Mikoto, then added project beauty, then everything started going to hell. Also, i can never decide the right ''body type'' mods, or those with the most options. Anything from best texture enhancements, particular clothe mods, etc. is appreciated. This especially is giving me an headache, because the sheer amount of cool mods out there is one of the reason i was having amount-of-mod-issues. Even better if the suggestions can affect both wastelands at once. I've had some issue where NV ended up looking entirely too good compared to the capital wasteland :P

-Unlimited companion mods/Recruiting anyone/Cool hideout...i hate having companions around, but building my own faction /HQ just rocks... Any settlement building mods are also quite welcome.

-Picking ENBs. Also if someone can dumbify how to run one, id appreciate it. I tried the injector with my skyrim game, and for some reason it never worked. I tend to consider myself consider savvy, but this particular aspect seems to turn me into the equivalent of a drooling 2 year old Punga addict...

Any advice is appreciated! While im hoping to expand my mod usage to ''see whats around'' once the core picks are done, ive really had bum luck/judgement with picking those few(ish) ''great'' mods, those with the most bang for buck that wont crash my game every time i fast travel basically, and any advice is welcome!

Thanks again!

Edit! : Here i'll list favorite picks, alternate choices, etc.

-Female Body Type and best associated mods

T6M would be my pick of choice these days, but im only starting to look into it

-Male Body Type and best associated mods

Any other option besides Robert's these days?

-Any other big ''Mods'' that can improve character creation/customization?

I used to run mikoto but it seemed to conflict a lot with an earlier version of FNV Redesigned. Any suggestions?

Tailor Maid is pretty awesome, any similar mods out there? /is there been a ttw version already?

-Best General NPCs improvement: TTW Converted FO3 and NV Redesigned

-Best environnement Visual Improvements:

TTW Converted EVE for Fo3 and NV

NMC texture packs

URWL or Nevada Skies or any other best suited for TTW? Here i could use much help

-Improved Difficulty/Game longevity:

I'm looking between the various increased spawns mods, as well as AWOP, trying to figure out which ones are currently the best at improving FO3 and NV at once. Advice welcome! Also, AWOP seems great, but i always have difficulty enjoying the completely new ''items'' that slightly break the vanilla experience for me. I enjoy having the option but finding them among levelled loot lists and whatnots seem to take away some of the experience imo. Again, same thing with monsters, while i love slight variations on existing monsters, anything too lorebreaking or far fetch usually end up having me uninstall the mod, no matter how amazing the whole of it is. Thoughts on this? Suggestions? Insults? :P

Any increase spawn mods that cover both wastelands? if not, which ones should be used in which combination?

-Recruiting anyone/Companions/Settlements (hardly core or necessary, but that one's mostly for me...i love those. :P

Willow and Niner are greats, tried em myself. They add a lot to the experience without gamebreaking or becoming (too) annoying. Visuals are very unique as well and high quality.

Heard good things about Delilah

Baby Deathclaw Commander has been a favorite of mine for a long while, cant wait to try the ttw version

-Other non must-have but extremely great mods.

WMX (TTW converted) is looking AWESOME. cant wait to try it in action

-Other MustHaveMods

NVSE

MCM

For settlement building you

Post by Senterpat » Tue Oct 28, 2014 5:04 pm

For settlement building you can't beat Real Time Settler, JazzisParis has an awesome Companion Control mod, one of the features is force recruiting any NPC or Creature, as well as preventing them from being fired when standing around long enough. Delilah is a newish companion that's really good.

Tooting my own horn: You should check out my CAM mod on the nexus, grow your own plants, take new chems, smoke cigarettes, and more :D

Also some mods that are essential for my game:

AWOP, TTW Interiors, WMX, Project Nevada, Vurt's flora overhauls, and Nevada Skies.

Call me Pat. Senterpat is too much to type.

I discovered TTW only

Post by ADHDoug » Tue Oct 28, 2014 9:10 pm

I discovered TTW only recently, and my mind is thoroughly blown. I have played both FO3 and NV quite extensively, but this offers a whole different level. I have modded NV a little in the past but didn't really understand what I was getting into. I have not played TTW yet due to modding, and have been procrastinating setting up this very project for probably two weeks now. Thank you for stepping up to the plate and drawing me out of the darkness.

I know next to nothing about modding and don't really know how to be useful to this, but I'd like to be involved if I can. Once we figure out this dream list and have it all puzzled together properly to the point where even I can get it working, some of my plans were to write a comprehensive guide and potentially record an installation video for others like me who are very intimidated and put off by how complex and technical extensive modding can be.

tl;dr: I can't help with the modding but really want to see this succeed and become easily accessible.

Sounds like a worthwhile idea

Sounds like a worthwhile idea ADHDoug.

Maybe a small comprehensive list with very short description of what each mod does, those considered ''Core'', and any other interesting features.

The goal wouldnt be to exlude all the other great content mods out there, but to get newcomers rolling on the most stable, best looking ''vanilla'' experience/ lore friendly setup, so that they can build up on it to add their own. With a core listing, the dreaded max mod cap will be less likely to be reached as quickly, and it will allow players to experiment with more mods if they don't always end up having duplicates or redundant ones.

Also to make lists of which mods becomes redundant with one another, and the pros and cons of each so newcomers can just decide which is best for them.

I'll also try to come up with categories, akin to the nexus's i guess.

I'm thinking-

-Body types and best mods/features of each

-'Essential'' visual enhancements (TTW Redesigned and EVE ttw comes to mind, but id also be happy to mention others) plus others that while not necessary per se, greatly enhances the experience (Vurt's Flora, for example)

-Best Environnement visual enhancements (NMCs, Realistic lighting mods, etc.)

-Any mods that extends longevity /challenge/ makes life simpler for serial repeaters such as myself without sacrificing challenge and experience too much.

-Best auditory enhancements. Its the biggest aspect imo that always makes me return to fallout over Skyrim, despite the newer engines and graphics.

-Hidden gems that really brings a lot of bang for your buck, expands the game in an entirely new aspect, etc.

As i mentioned, those kinds of lists have been done and redone so many times, those among us who've played and replayed the game might find silly/ self-evident, but im sure the newcomers and those who took extended hiatus from the FO serie will be very glad!

So any help is welcome, wether you just suggest your own favorites, or simply post your own load orders to that we can figure out which are the most popular and used mods!

@senterpat: Thanks! Ill definitly check your stuff out on the nexus!

rummage through the ttw mod

Post by freakydoo » Tue Oct 28, 2014 10:30 pm

rummage through the ttw mod release forum and the ttw mod convergence forum. those are lists of basically the best mods you'll find. that's the comprehensive list of mods i work with. for FO3 mods that have not been converted there is a simple "how to" floating around here somewhere.

I'll toss in my 3 cents then

Post by RoyBatty » Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:03 am

I'll toss in my 3 cents then too.

Quests and Content

AWOP (both fo3 and NV), Point Lookout Reborn, Interiors Combo Edition, New Vegas Bounties I & 2 (and soon 3), Afterschool Special and New Bison Steve. Optionally is Russell, Someguy's Boxing mod (forgot the name) and The Killer.

Weapons and etc...

Project Nevada (also lots of other stuff), EVE, WotNM, CFW, WMX, IMPACT, I'd also like to see compat patches for WRP as some stuff isn't going to work presently and certainly not the FO3 version.

Prettify + extras

There's already a thread about textures and armors with extensive lists, search the forum for it. Redesigned, CAM and Vurts defintely belong on the list. DarNified UI.

Lighting and Weather.

RWL is my favorite + Darker Nights, simple streetlights merge, ILO (hopefully full TTW/AWOP compat at some point)

Misc mods

FOV Slider (shameless plug), CASM, MCM, WMM, JIP CC&C, UIO, ED-E Enhanced, Flashlight NVSE, More Perks Merge,  Crimson Caravan Traders, Manual Reload, Armour Repair Kits, Vending Machines of the Wastes (pls fix Grib :), Nuka Cola Enhanced, and many many other little mods that do small tweaks to the game play.

I'm also partial to MMM, but I would like to see a new version of the mod also with NV wasteland integration and the bugs fixed... or an entirely new mod based on the lore friendly part of it, but not too out of hand with the features/monster types as it kind of detracts from it and gets that feature creep vibe.

I keep editing this...

I'd also really like to see a conversion of The Regulators that has the conflicts with Interiors resolved.

I thought I could at least

Post by ADHDoug » Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:20 am

I thought I could at least post my NV load order, but I can't seem to even figure out how to copy that off the Nexus mod manager. If somebody can tell me how to do that I'll drop it here. Most of what I have is mainstream stuff but mentioning it might support that they are mainstream. Glancing at the list I have things like FOOK, AWOP, Project Nevada, WME, Nevada Skies, EVE.

Most of my other stuff seems to be personal preference, specifically Dree74's More Traits and Perks, Robco Certified, and Powered Power Armor. I have to have these. How could I possibly bring myself to dominate the wastelands without a robot/cyborg/genetic abomination army and making power armor as pivotal to the game as weapons? That said I've seen some rather tantalizing power armor rebalances on this site, but I don't know if they are compatible with Powered Power Armor. For that matter I don't know if Powered Power Armor is compatible with TTW. Point being, I REALLY like being a mad scientist. I want to eat and rebuild Caesar and Mr. House and force them to watch as I burn all they have worked for in the name of independence. When New Vegas is ashes, then you have my permission to die.

But that's just me.

plugins page, to the left og the plugins about five icons down looks like a page with an arrow pointing right. hover over it and it should read export current load order. follow prompts to save it.

Post by ADHDoug » Wed Oct 29, 2014 7:03 am

Thanks freakydoo. This is what I'm currently running with. The only things I've noticed amiss are that my cannibalism seemed to disappear at some point (maybe I was messing with cannibal mods during a playthrough, not sure) and that I couldn't get the heat function of Powered Power Armor to work right without a conflict somewhere.

You have a lot of plugins in your data dir which are unused, you should think about removing them

Nevada Skies and Readius are both incompatible with TTW. Someone else will have to tell you if FOOK is or not.
