New Haven, Last Bastion of Civilization in the CW (IDEA)

Post by ElvenScoundrel » Wed Oct 31, 2012 4:25 pm

This is something I've had in my head for quite a while, now. An idea for a new settlement in the Capital Wasteland that adopts pre-war etiquette and tries to live as people did before the war.

It'd be a city somewhere in Downtown DC, L'Enfant being the place I'd like to build it on. I have sort of a backstory for this place, but I won't talk about it for now.

What do you guys think? Good idea? L'Enfant seemed like a true urban neighborhood, so I thought it'd make a nice place to build a city in.

I don't know that would be a really good place for a city.

I think it might work better as a group of people holding out in some of the boarded up buildings there.

Why not? Is it 'cause of the Super Mutant threat?

Pretty much. When I went there on the demo version, there were 4 or 5 mutant brutes with incinerators.

They really don't make the best neighbors.

Yeah, I had an idea for that, that makes people living there somewhat plausible. It involves a tinkerer, copious amounts of auto turrets, and fixed Securitrons.

New Settlements are always welcomed!. Besides, I'd love to see a place like the one you described. Andale was a little approach, at least regarding to appearances XD, and I liked it because of that.

However, I would choose another place for it. Can't imagine people behaving in a prewar way while being under the stress of the near presence of Supermutants.  What about a place like Andale or Republic of Dave?. I mean, isolated but not too much... Perhaps the town ruins near Tenpenny Tower.

DMC: Removing the trigger. I'd remove a lot of spawns and event triggers, or at least relocate the spawns to be outside of New Haven, just so the city can defend themselves from mutants and give the city a bit more action.

Starlet: because Downtown DC

Post by ElvenScoundrel » Thu Nov 01, 2012 11:13 am

Starlet: because Downtown DC has WAAAAY too many intact buildings and resources to not be exploited. I was going to make it where the city is 'dug in', that is well-fortified and defended. I have some pretty big ideas for the city, and I think the idea of them being besieged every so often and them fending them off to keep the pre-war dream alive is pretty neat. It's sort of well-protected anyways, having only 2 entrances/exits into it, and surrounded by dilapidated buildings makes for some good defensible positions. Plus, some of the buildings are just begging to be used, like the Capital Post, Madame Jealle's shop, the Diner...

Also, I read on Wikipedia that there's an underground mall in L'Enfant, so adding that would be really neat.

They wouldn't ENTIRELY behave like pre-war times, but they'd try their best. It's the Wasteland after all, so they're all armed and know the risks. Plus, there'd be guards. Heavily-armed guards.

Well, now that you mentioned the part that the settlement could be well protected and surrounded by dilapidated buildings that could serve as some kind of protection ( like the megaton walls for instance ) I guess the location there would make sense. And you're right, all the buildings there have potential ;). Besides, a new settlement is always welcomed XD.
