Revamping the Startup Menu: 3 ways to play

Post by cocopuffs » Mon Jul 06, 2015 10:32 pm

This is larger than the scope of TTW, possibly, because it would require permissions and the desire from two other teams to do so...however, I don't think it would be too hard to implement (although I don't know for sure) - and would be IMO an amazing mod!!!  So in that way it would be smaller in scope to get implemented.  There is no forum connecting all 3 of these teams so I just thought I'd start getting some ideas to see what you guys think (the TTW team and fans) here.

So here goes: Imagine you are playing TTW and wish, man I wonder if I could play Project Brazil (http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/45138/? by the Project Brazil Team)  or DUST the Survival Simulator (http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/57927/? by naugrim04)- I take no credit for these or any mods and do not plan to, I just want to propose an idea for a mod-

Well, playing either of those two mods would likely not be compatible with TTW and you probably wouldn't want to play them all together.  But what about choosing 1/3 at the startup menu for the FONV engine?  If you could choose or quit your game in one, go back to this menu, start up the engine to play one of the other 2/3 mods- that would be great!

Also, it would really vamp up popularity (and thus testing) for all 3 of the major mods (not that DUST is major yet in any way and also has some mixed reviews because it makes MAJOR changes to Fallout New Vegas so its in many ways a different game with different gameplay).

The 3 mods could each have their own Fallout New Vegas **** (TTW, PrBr, or DUST) suffixes for folder names, with a unique Fallout New Vegas exe for each in its own folder, eliminating the problem of where to store Data files- you could even have their own My Games/subfolder to avoid the problem of different Fallout and Falloutprefs ini files.  There would have to be some separate (but similar) launcher to the normal New Vegas one that would combine all three and then reference each folder.

Maybe its too much work/too difficult/ or too big of an idea- and little interest- but maybe not! What do you guys think?

UPDATE: MO would be a better soultion! But of course. surprise D'oh.  I am still very beginner to MO but if I learn how to get this all going I may try to provide a basic tutorial here for people new to MO (although there are guides available so it shouldn't be too hard- S.T.E.P. Fear and Loathing, Gopher's MO vids, etc, none of them are directly for TTW, which IMO would be much preferred)

Hello Cocopuffs,

I don't understand what you are asking exactly?

Is it the possibility to use the same character for TTW, Dust and Project Brazil?

If it is not the case, You can use ModOrganizer to create profiles for different characters. One for TTW, one for Dust and an other one for Project Brazil. And with some little work one for TTW-DUST!

What mod manager do you use?

MO profiles seem to be kinda the same except one would have to quit the game.

As Rise said, MO is the FAR easier way to accomplish what you want. AFAIK it's not possible to turn off mods in game without doing a lot of work in the mod to allow for it.

Hey Guys,

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies- @Alexcroww -I was wondering if it would be possible to have a launcher that connected 3 different FONV launchers - which would be configured to run each of these.  I see what you mean about MO being a much better solution for this.  I was curious to see how hard it would be to set up a script to do this/although it looks like it may be not worth it if people use MO.  Also that would avoid the issue of using multiple FOMM setups for the 3 different mods/overhauls.  I don't mean using the same character for all three playthroughs, just loading up the mods as 3 separate FONV instances (one at a time, depending on which you want to play).

For myself I'm still very new to MO, trying it but I had some probs last time (that I for the longest time couldn't fix) so I gave up on it and went back to FOMM.  But I have heard good things, I may give it a go again later on (setting up 3 profiles) - I was having a hard time setting up MO to work with TTW last time- I was able to get everything running but for some reason couldn't open it from within MO, getting a crash every time (no load screen just crash).  However, manually clicking on FNV4GB was working fine, so its not a huge workaround.  I didn't get very far into getting a fully modded profile set up though.

Hi Cocopuffs,

Hi Cocopuffs,

Is is pointless to create a dedicated launcher for DUST, TTW, Vanilla and PB.

The profile in Mod Organizer is so much better. It will remember all the different mods, ini tweaks and more for each of your characters. You can use FNV4GB and ENB/other injectors with Mod Organizer. Please watch Gopher's tutorial.  He made one for FNV.

For the installation of TTW with MO it is simple to do a manual install. Just extract the FOMOD with winrar and do it manually.

Give an other try to MO you won't regret it.

Regards.
