The Wanderer's Old Gear

So, I was having a discussion in the Public Chat about the Difficult Journey Mod for TTW, which makes the whole DC to Mojave transition harder, and does some things with your stats and equipment to be a tad bit more lore friendly. All in all a good mod for those who enjoy a bit of difficulty, and some extra story. My only gripe is that, aside from your unique bits of equipment, all of your equipment is placed in a container that can only be reached with console commands. Personally, I don't think this counts because there's no way to get your old gear (which you've probably modded heavily, and quite expensively) without breaking immersion and using the console.


So, after a discussion with a like minded individual whom goes by 'TheLoneCourier', we both came up with some ideas to make either a standalone or an expansion mod to (hopefully) increase immersion, and bring a sense of closure to all your old gear.


The first part of the idea was to perhaps distribute all of your old gear (That being weaponry and armor, possibly misc items like what you get from Moira) around the Mojave in specially marked 'Wanderer Caches' which would contain maybe one or two of your old bits of gear. A secondary idea would be to also include the creation of a number of unique, perhaps mini-boss level, new NPCs whom would be wearing/using your gear, and whom you would have to defeat so as to get your old stuff back.


The second part of the idea was to have the mod copy all of your weaponry, armors, and special misc items, and from there create unique weapons with names such as 'Wanderer's Beloved Hunting Rifle' or something of that sort which would be exact replicas of your old guns, maybe including special modifiers for damage or stats. As a continuation of the distribution ideas mentioned above, these special weapons and armors would also be available at certain vendors, under the logic that whomever had stolen them from you or your caches had then sold the heavily customized weapons off for quite a few caps. This could add a secondary layer to the mod, aside from the first to find all the caches and kill all the special enemies, which would basically be heading around to different merchants to collect all the bits of your old gear. A special perk for all of this could even be awarded once every item was recovered so as to be incentive for going on the treasure hunt.


Finally, and this would be something requiring an artist or whoever does stuff with textures (Sorry, I'm quite new to this) which would be giving the unique weaponry some new, battle-scarred models with personalized bits on them, such as the kill count on the Ratslayer. Whatever was added to the weapons and armors would, of course, be up to the artist.


I would like to finally mention that I've never made a mod before, and have no experience in the field. As such, I've honestly no real clue as to how difficult this request might be. Ehhh, that mod doesn't really seem like it has such a wide scope, though. Like, for all the options it gives stuff to the Khans, or to one guy, which is all well and good but doesn't quite do what I'd like in a mod like this. Also, the distribution of old items was only one part of this mod idea. An important part, but it would be nice to see more special NPCs and stuff. :p

While this one does seem to handle the item distribution much better, and I think I'd certainly use it if this never get's made, it doesn't really seem to include any of your old gear in the world. Unless I'm reading this wrong, it does make Caches scattered around, which is all well and good, but personally I'd prefer more of a fight to get my things back, and it just doesn't seem logical that just one guy would have all that stuff like in the mod someone else suggested.
