I don't see PN as a super mod

Post by RoyBatty » Tue Sep 27, 2016 10:49 pm

I don't see PN as a super mod, that would be something like NVEC. Full of things I don't want or need. There are things in PN I don't use like the equipment and the cyberware, but you can turn it all off. PN's sprint mod, bullet time and grenade hotkey just work better than all the other ones, so no big deal to have it all in one place, plus the balance changes are readily tweakable by Extra Options. That's the thing about PN, you can turn off what you don't like or need and use something else. Saying a mod is for beginners can be kind of insulting to experts who made it, use it and also mod it. We make these mods for ourselves first usually and share them. When you can make similar mods by yourself then you can consider yourself an expert.

And yeah, use what you want or like. No need to bash stuff, just ignore and move on.

Hmm - maybe I'm mistaken about PN. If I was insulting, I apologize. I just hate super-mods, and I was under the distinct impression PN was one.

PN has no quest mods, doesn't

PN has no quest mods, doesn't add any content except equipment and only if you choose to use those modules. It's more of a gameplay mod than anything. It's much more conservative than FWE was.

Yeah, but having just installed PN to TTW, it's roughly the equivalent of two dozen mods, with several hundred megs of new armor and weapons, and no real EVE/WMX support yet. Even the EVE/WMX support for NV is outdated. I do love the sprint/grenade/mine support, though. I'll use it a while before deciding if just sprint/grenade is worth all the remaining hassle.

Example - I always set the timescale to 10 in Bethesda games. Despite dire warnings, I've never encountered a single negative consequence of doing so. PN resets it to default constantly, so now I have to go through a half dozen MCM menus to find the timescale settings, which are not documented anywhere in the PN instructions. All they say is in the FAQ that PN can change the timescale for various conditions. Nothing about those conditions or where in the setting that any of the that is or what the settings mean. And that's ONE SINGLE ISSUE.

If you don't want the

Post by RoyBatty » Thu Sep 29, 2016 3:49 am

If you don't want the cyberware, equipment or rebalance modules, don't install them.

PN handles the Hardcore rates which don't stay the same if you change the timescale, it compensates for that. It does say so in the instructions/description.

I hate the weapon charging, it's useless so I don't use it. That makes an EVE patch not necessary. The WMX patch is only for the restored/added weapons, which are mostly F3 content restorations and therefore not need either.

The TTW Patch I updated includes all the modules because I can't be bothered to make 20 different patch combinations. Anyone that has basic experience with FNVEdit can remove any module dependencies from it with the "list records referencing specific plugin" script.

I use extra options so I can control rebalance mostly and set loot rarity and stuff to sane levels instead of the monty haul vanilla settings.

I did find the timescale

Post by jlf65 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 12:32 am

I did find the timescale setting in the rebalance settings. It wouldn't have been an issue if they simply had a web page or text file with a list of all settings and what they controlled. Oh well, one less thing to worry about.

I'd like PN much better if the weapons and armor weren't part of it. Those REALLY need to be optional installs. What does adding dozens of weapons and armor got to do with the rest of the PN? Nothing. It's just there because someone involved in PN wanted them.

I'm mostly using the default PN settings for all the rebalance stuff, and I do have to say it makes the game harder, which is better for long-time players. So I like that part. Remember that part of Moira's quests where she wants you to hurt yourself? I usually toss a couple grenades at my feet. With PN, I killed myself several times doing that. :)

So I'm slowly coming to like a lot of PN, but I wish they had a stripped down version without the weapons and armor.

PN is modular, they are

Post by RoyBatty » Fri Sep 30, 2016 1:44 am

PN is modular, they are *already* optional. If you don't like a module, DON'T install it.

I already said that several times? :D

I just checked - the weapons and armor are part of the core. There is no option to not install them. Oh well, they're mostly junk, so I just tend to ignore them.

The equipment module is not part of core?

Core does not contain any armor, weapons or gear outside 2mmEC ammo.

The equipment is controlled

Post by jlf65 » Sat Oct 01, 2016 3:42 pm

The equipment is controlled by the equipment esp, so you don't have to have it in the game, but the meshes and textures are in the core installation, so they're always installed in the game directory. So I don't have to use the equipment if I don't want (thanks for pointing that out), but it's still installed and taking space that could have been used for something else. I suppose I could go through and delete all that by hand if I really needed the space. I'll wait until I do before attempting that. laugh
