It seems reasonable to me that equidae as we know them went extinct, but that a small group may have mutated in a way that let them survive, maybe the donkey's were able to adapt more quickly than horses. I mean I imagine that almost all dogs went extinct during the Great War, but we still clearly have some dogs in the wastelands.

“Throughout the years since the bombs first fell, dogs have remained largely unaltered by radiation.”— Fallout 3 loading screen

Dogs were for some reason apparently immune to most of the radiation effects. And from the wiki page: "Though most breeds of dogs remain largely unaffected by radiation exposure, some modified or mutant varieties do exist. The centaurs are mutants created by mixing dog, human, and brahmin DNA in FEV vats. Dogs were also subject to Enclave experiments, which resulted in cyberdogs."

Radiation aside, a ton of them would have died after their owners did. Domesticated dogs aren't fit to survive in the wild, especially post-apocalyptic wilds. They aren't altered, but they probably almost died off (at least domestic breeds).

if you make 6-legged horses, does that mean they're going to try to impregnate loki?

There was a mod that allowed you to ride Brahmin or Yuo Gui (can't spell) but now can't find it. If horses are fully extinct we could possibly have a similar animal to become transportation. The mole rats have gotten bigger, so maybe other animals have too. With it being TTW a Big horner may be an option.

I think it would be a cool idea, but then again so is a long bow, so we'll see what's do able.

If life is but a test, where's the damn answer key?!?!?

Point. some Dogs would Die. Goodbye Breeds like The Corgi. however. Working Dog Breeds like Rottweiler,  Retriever, German Shepherd, some Mix Breeds. and as we seen in the game thanks to Dogmeat. Husky. i can picture some small dogs escaping the Radition. The Dachshund or Weiner dog is a hunting Dog that can dig in rabit holes for prey. if any breed can survive it's those in the Working Class of Dog.

Just a little correction, Dogmeat is not a Husky, it is an Australian Cattle Dog, like the one from Mad Max 2 wink.

[collapsed title=How about this?] We could get parts and make a Giddyup Buttercup

[/collapsed]

[collapsed title=Where to get one] We could get the parts here:

Yep, Mothership Zeta has an entire room full of them and pieces too laugh

Alternatively you could create a ridable ciber dog, at the big empty.

Or since this is TTW use both things, and splice a horse brain into one of the mothership horse toys.

The only problems I see with those suggestions are that dogs are not big enough so making a cyberdog (which is more than 50% actual dog) there is no way a human could ride one of those. The other problem is that there is no horse brains because horses are extinct.

Giddyup Buttercup toys were actually robots that were made so kids could ride them, still an adult human would not really fit well in one of those, but IIRC Mothership Zeta does have bigger Buttercups so I am sure there are different size parts around there too.

Stick a saddle on a giant RadScorpion.

Wickedly fast tank, that fuels itself and has built in tools for clearing paths.

Win.
