Red triangles over characters

Post by aprildruid » Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:26 am

I just installed the mod today, and now I have red / white triangles all over my character. I don't know what I did or what's going on, I tried uninstalling both NV and 3, along with TTW. Maybe it's a mod I installed, but it persists after a clean install, even tried validating my archive to see if that would work(it did not). I'm at my wits end, and don't know how to fix this.

Wasn't like this after exiting the Vault for the first time, that's all I know.

Both NV and 3, are the GOTY Steam edition.

OS: Win 10 Pro 64-Bit

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz

Ram: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz

FOMM 0.14.14

Edit: So it turns out it's the TTWFixes.esm that's causing this. It removes the pip boy textures.

The archive was already invalidated, and my weapon was the 9mm you get from "Escape!". I tried validating my archive, and then invalidating again. No dice.

Tried toggling invalidation a few times, and still not working. Got rid of my 9mm, and still got the issue going.

Red triangles usually refer

Post by Mystical Panda » Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:30 pm

Red triangles usually refer to missing meshes, and archiveinvalidation usually refers to textures (if I'm not mistaken). Even if a replacement mesh for a vanilla asset is missing, the game should still load the original vanilla asset. Setting or changing the dates on the plugins and BSA archives results in the same thing- a texture or mesh being used that wasn't intended- but it won't show up as missing. The only time meshes are generally missing is if it's a custom mesh for a custom object (like a new gun, clothing, or other object), and it's literally missing from the mod for some reason, or the game can't locate a vanilla mesh asset in the vanilla or TTW BSAs.

Without being able to hash a working TTW data file and compare that value to yours (given the fact it's the same type of game- language for example), which would easily tell if something wrong (different values for both), I could only guess that something is possibly missing, or has the wrong internal 'id', asset wise.

If you switch weapons does it go away? of is it the same for all weapons? or just one? one other quick note, should TTW fixes generally be just after the TTW esm? (not that that would cause the problem your describing, but more of a general practice); it's been awhile for me TTW wise.

Can't switch weapons, because the pip boy is missing. but if I drop all my gear into a container, it still happens.

I'm not sure why it's doing that, even after a fresh install.

https://imgur.com/a/Xctzm Inventory emptied into container, and then the results of that.

This is speculation on my part, but I think it could be from a hair mod? Zzjay's hairpack for Fallout 3 to be exact.

Is it possible?
Deleted the files from said mod, still not working.

I've never had this happen

Post by Mystical Panda » Wed Jan 31, 2018 8:45 pm

I've never had this happen unless it was a missing asset for a custom object, or I went over the plugin limit. So I'm kinda limited.

Is the triangle for your entire body? Including the pipboy? or just the pipboy? If you scroll out does it just show where your pipboy would be?

The pip boy glove will show, but not the pip boy. Maybe it's the pip boy missing a texture?

EDIT: It's because of "TTWFixes" it for whatever reason gets rid of the pipboy.

I was thinking that also; I saw on the forum awhile back where someone else had the same issue. Glad you figured it out!

Also archive invalidation

Also archive invalidation affects all files, not just textures.
