MO works fine, with one or

Post by GrantSP » Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:26 pm

MO works fine, with one or two provisos:

BSA order

Don't have any of your games installed in any UAC folder in Windows or any tool called from MO.

Turn off ALL ingame overlay software from any manufacturer, Steam, AMD, NVidia, Overwolf (not sure on the actual company name for that last one.)

The actual mechanism that MO uses to provide the virtual installations of the mods is very similar to that used by malware/viruses and as such your AV software may need to be told to exclude it from checking. The initial project was part of @Tannin's university doctorate into malicious software and started life as a 'proof of concept'.

Aside from that, MO is a great platform to mod your game.

One last thing, there have been reports that Windows latest "Creator Update" has completely broken MO so you may want to consider that also. I have not got that update yet so I can't check.

I know this sounds dumb, but would disabling the mods for F:NV work for FOMM or NMM

I have the Windows 10 Creators' Update, and I don't trust myself with the AV software.

No. Both FOMM and NMM install

Post by GrantSP » Fri Aug 04, 2017 3:37 am

No. Both FOMM and NMM install mods directly into the Data folder so any file that is overwritten when you install will still be overwritten when you de-activate the mod. This is in fact one of MO's selling points: nothing is changed in the game folders and anything can be safely moved/deleted/renamed/edited without fear of breaking any existing files.

If you will only play with one set of mods then FOMM is fine. If you truly want to play with a few different setups then you need MO or become good at returning your game folder to a pristine state after each try. Can be done, but not for the faint-hearted.

Post by CrypticStrat » Sat Aug 05, 2017 5:18 am

So I uninstalled all of my F:NV Mods, but when I try and start New Vegas again, it just crashes when it shows the "Obsidian" slide in the intro.

I reinstalled New Vegas, and I reinstalled A Tale of Two Wastelands, but the same thing happened. Any help?

(I was also wondering if I had to delete all my mods for FO3.)

I validate my cache, but

Post by CrypticStrat » Sat Aug 05, 2017 9:17 pm

I validate my cache, but every time, there's 1 file that fails to validate. I try again and again, but it still says 1 file, even if I hadn't launched the game yet.

I deleted all my mods via NMM, and I uninstalled F:NV with Steam

(I was also wondering if I had to delete all my mods for Fallout 3, too.)

You can safely ignore that

You can safely ignore that Steam message. My install is absolutely fine but even on mine Steam gives me that message.

Does it launch via Steam

Does it launch via Steam without using a manager?

Sounds like NMM is still referencing inactive mods and baulks at game start because they are no longer there.

you dont have to touch

Post by RoyBatty » Sun Aug 06, 2017 1:40 am

you dont have to touch Fallout 3.

Completely manually delete the Fallout New Vegas folder. The file steam keeps finding is your ini file, you can wipe those too and start from total scratch.

NMM may very well be the issue, even nexus abandoned it.
