using mods in differnet profiles on same computer (Updated)

Post by Docwolf1983 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 1:27 am

This one is interesting.

Setup:

Single Windows 10 computer with two profiles accessing FOMM (.14.11.12) and running TTW with the same mods.  My Profile and a Profile for my daughter using Microsoft's Family Controls, each profile also has it's own Steam account with family sharing enabled.

The Problem:

ttw with no additional mods runs fine in both profiles, I installed some mods and the game works under my profile but not her's.  disable several unrelated mods and it runs on her profile again.

Mods:

Nevada Skies

Vurt's

BLIND

Enhanced items

and any additional required mods for those to run.

Behavior:

Game launches but while loading  her save crashes.  I am have played around with only enabling certain mods and I cannot pin down which specific ones effect it; one time it seems like Nevada skies is the issues but further testing starts to look like Vurt's. I have gone through and reactivated all the mods in FOMM too. I also notice no matter what mods are loaded the text on her title screen is fuzzy, but only the title text; the menu text is fine.  The few times I have gotten the game to load has been without Vurt's yet the trees (the full evergreens in FO3) are present but blocky with rainbow colored "skeletons".  This almost indicates to me a video issue (AMD 780 mobile chipset in a AIO HP EliteOne 800) yet the game does not have these problems in my profile, infact is runs great and is beautiful running on ultra high; so maybe a user rights issue then?

I have given her full Control on:

the Steam Folder in Programs x86

The Game folder under C:

The folder in Documents under her profile.

I am out of ideas and not sure what else to supply to diag this issue.

Also, have you checked to see if plugins.txt, fallout.ini, falloutprefs.ini, etc.,. are the same on hers? Those are user specific.

plugins.txt is located in:

Post by Mystical Panda » Sat Jul 08, 2017 7:58 pm

plugins.txt is located in: %localappdata%\FalloutNV\plugins.txt. If it doesn't exist (or is empty- just contains '#' comments), the game will just assume (if I understand the game engine correctly) that only the core FalloutNV.esm is going to be loaded ignoring the rest.

the ini files are located in: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Fallout.ini (and FalloutPrefs.ini).

Though, looking at the crash dump and not really being familiar with with FoMM, it looks almost like it doesn't care for, or handled a returned value from the OS (64bit returned to a 32bit register?). Which is odd it works on yours but not hers. I'm also wondering if FoMM installs configuration files specific to the user (user profile folders), which wouldn't exist on hers, and that might be causing the problem. It might be something to look into also.

FOMM installs in Program

Post by Docwolf1983 » Sat Jul 08, 2017 8:20 pm

FOMM installs in Program files x86, but it does appear to use plugins.txt from under each profile (located in the users document directory).  I did give her full control of the FOMM folder so that should resolve that I would think.  FOMM launches the game fine, but like I said the title text is blurry and I noticed a few of the loading screen images are blurry also; but not all.....

The plugins.txt are different orders, I will copy mine over and check the other two files.

I copied over my files and the test and load images are clear now.........BUT, game still crashes when loading a save.

Update,  Cannot start a new game on her profile either.  I will start disabling mods and report back.

SUCESS!!!!!

SUCESS!!!!!

it appears my issue was Enhanced Item Info which I don't think I listed before.  I don't think it was working on mine anyway so no big loss. I have the trees and they look right but Nevada skies does not seem to be working so I will reactivate that; Thanks!

had a storm blowing through at her save point, once that cleared the skies looked perfect!
