Fix for Mothership Zeta crashing?

16GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RAM

MSI R9 270x 2GB

-------------------------------------------

Nexus Mod Manager Version 0.63.5

Install log and current load order in attachments.

As of right now, Mothership Zeta is not playable due to a crash every time an alien enters the holding cell you and Somah are kept in. That's it; there's nothing else that happens. Aliens enter, game shits itself. I have not tried anything to fix it because as far as I know, there is no method to fix it.

However, I have been informed that a fix had been implemented in a previous version, however due to a repository change, that edit has been lost. I would like to know if there is anything I can do to get this running again as I would not enjoy throwing away 30 hours of playtime.

Extract the alien skeleton

Extract the alien skeleton from the zeta bsa of FO3 and install it in the same path, we must have forgot to upload that hotfix.

So, I went into the Zeta BSA

Post by XanthosGambit » Mon Oct 31, 2016 5:01 pm

So, I went into the Zeta BSA and extracted the skeleton.nif from "meshes/dlc05/creatures/alien/skeleton.nif" and placed it into the Fallout: New Vegas Data folder. I think you did implement the hotfix, because the same exact file structure along with the skeleton.nif was already there.

Anyway, I replaced it and tried again. It still crashes, right after the fist-fight with Somah, when the aliens come to break it up. They'll enter the cell, I'll hit one of them and the game will crash.

Also, I forgot to mention, both copies are disc versions that had Steam codes, but the Fallout 3: GOTY has the PEGI rating system if that matters.

The thread that referenced

The thread that referenced this fix is from a while back, so it's a bit fuzzy.  Wasn't the solution to replace the skeleton.nif in the bsa and not just dropping it in as a loose file?  I remember it was a bit more complex and the fix took some skills.

EDIT:  Ignore all that.  Found the thread and the final solution was just copying the skeleton.nif as a loose file.

CCSP2 is the Combined

Post by XanthosGambit » Tue Nov 01, 2016 9:51 am

CCSP2 is the Combined Community Sound Pack 2. Just something that supposedly changes weapon noises and other stuff. I haven't really noticed a difference though.

I just uninstalled ragdolls, I'll edit this after I've tested it.

EDIT: It works! I guess ragdolls must have done something to the skeletons that the Gamebryo engine didn't like.

Ragdolls can result in some -

Post by jlf65 » Tue Nov 01, 2016 3:17 pm

Ragdolls can result in some - weird - bugs. For example, I've got ragdolls installed and those three dead brahmin near Super Duper look like aliens turned them inside out. Remove the brahmin skeleton installed by ragdolls and they look fine. Now here's the really weird part - dead brahmin use the same model as live brahmin, and so if you kill a brahmin, it's still using the same skeleton; I can kill brahmin and they don't look like the ones that are already dead. WHY??? Don't know, but it's ragdolls' fault. Remove their skeleton and everything is fine.
