NVSE/mods flagged as security threats by antivirus/antimalware software?

Post by khumak » Thu Sep 01, 2016 5:07 pm

One thing I've been noticing pretty often when my game crashes (and it doesn't crash that often), if I go into task manager to kill the game I frequently notice that one of the highest CPU utilization is my Antimalware Service Executable process.  I have a feeling there may be instances where it thinks NVSE or some mod is a virus or malware and tries to block it.  Is that something other people have issues with or am I imagining things.  And if it is a problem is there a way to whitelist Fallout so it ignores my mods?

(edit) Actually I found where to whitelist it.  Not sure if this is the best way but I excluded both my Steam folder and my Mod Organizer folders under Windows Defender -> Exclusions.  Will see if that improves stability.

So I haven't played long

So I haven't played long enough since to tell for sure, but I have zero crashes so far since excluding Fallout and MO from Windows Defender's virus/malware checking.  So far so good :)

That stuff should all be whitelisted already, strange.

Where do you see that?  For me, the exclusions I added for Steam and Mod Organizer are the only things on the exclusion list for Windows Defender unless there's some hidden default list it uses that I can't see.  I don't use any third party security software, just the built in windows 10 stuff.

After playing for longer I do still get crashes but it does seem like they're less frequent now.  Could be my imagination I guess.

It's all been whitelisted for

It's all been whitelisted for years in defender, unless microsoft is taking a more aggressive "we say so" stance, which doesn't surprise me at all.
