The audio in my game is completely ruined.

Post by DannyFilming » Wed Oct 28, 2015 12:22 am

I recently had a problem with the songs on the radio not working in my game. That issue was resolved in this thread https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/music-doesnt-work-my-gamei

However, as a direct result of the fix for that problem a new problem arose. The way I fixed the radio problem was that I downloaded a program called AC3Filter. In it, under "Default Audio Renderer" I used the "Use Wave Out By Default" option instead of the "Use Direct Sound By Default" Option. This worked like a charm and now I can enjoy the radio music while I play.

But when I made this change a very large number of highly annoying bugs appeared.

1. The music slider in my game options works like the master audio slider now so I can either have really loud background music and dialogue at the same time but I can't turn down the background music and keep the dialogue volume up resulting in all the dialogue getting drowned out by the background music. This is not the radio music I'm referring to, it's the ambient background music.

2. The Brotherhood of Steel dialogue is blown out when they hit high notes, creating distortion. Not so serious that I can't understand them but serious enough to make it highly annoying. It's not pleasant to listen to.

3. The sound just plain disappears a lot of the time during combat. I can't hear gunshots, music, dialogue, nothing! It doesn't disappeared completely, it just gets turned down really really really low.

4. The sound disappears (gets turned down really low) when I enter certain buildings such as my house in Megaton or the water purification plant/house in Megaton.

That about covers it, I've set all my audio settings to stereo, I've updated my audio drivers and I've removed my Razer 7.1 heaphones, they're not the problem. I'm not very tech savy and there's only so much I can learn from google with this. Somebody please help me.

I am using Win 8.1.

As bad as I hate to say it,

As bad as I hate to say it, you probably need to start over as well. Ditch AC3Filter and any other audio codecs you may have installed. Get the game running properly and with properly working audio and *then* install your mods. If you don't have functioning audio on a fresh install, and without any workarounds, your problem goes deeper.
