Request for advice on load order/crashing issues

Post by SiriusScaper » Mon Nov 02, 2015 10:26 pm

Specs: Windows 10, i5 3570k oced to 3.8Ghz, 16GB ram, GTX 980 ti

FOMM 0.14.11.12

Load order: http://pastebin.com/YqR6v9jM

Install log: http://pastebin.com/hpb0GfhG

I have had issues with random crashes. They happen mostly when going into or more often out of interior spaces. I can go an hour to two without a crash, but more often it's less than an hour. It ranges from a hard crash that throws up an error about "Just in time" to just freezing. I have tried the performance guide, I have followed the install instructions for all the mods I installed. I have tried my best with the load order, but I've always had issues doing this correctly even with TES which I have modded/played a lot more than F3 or NV. :-/

Running GOTY Fallout 3 from steam and Ultimate New Vegas on steam.

Thanks for any help!

I don't see anything majorly

I don't see anything majorly wrong with your load order, although I don't recognize everything.

Crash on cell change is a common issue with FNV.  Some people report fixing it with the Purge Cell Buffers mod.  Others say that playing in windowed mode fixes it.  Some say that if you have an old merged patch it can cause those types of crashes when you go into a cell where there is a conflict.  So if you haven't lately, you can update your merged patch.  And of course, crashes can be caused by CPU/GPU overheating.

Some people also say that you have to run the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.  Personally, i do this by default with all installs of FNV because of crash problems.   Right click the .exe file -> Properties -> Compability -> Run this program in compabiltiy mode for: Windows XP (service pack 3) -> Apply -> OK -> Done"

Some people also say "crashes on cell change are caused by the autosave feature choking because it's trying to write data into a save it corrupted the last time you changed cells." So disabling AutoSave could be a solution.

If it becomes really bad you may just have to go through your load one by one and disable things until it stops happening.

The only potential conflict

Post by Fruckert » Mon Nov 02, 2015 10:56 pm

The only potential conflict (I think) I can see is the trophies mods. Pretty sure you only need the TTWInteriors one?

Other than that, Therm has some excellent advice.

And like, other stuff, I guess.

argh, hate it when something happens and a longish post is lost...ah well

To summarize

@thermador, thanks for the advice on compatibility. I actually run all the usual tweaks, windowed mode thats upped to fullscreen windowed with a program, FNV4G, nvse, the stutter plugin, and CASM for managing saves. I'll try the compat mode and look and see if CASM is saving too often. Also my merge patch is definitely up to date, haven't added or lost any mods since making it.

@Fruckert, is that TTW - Trophies - Megaton I should get rid of?

Edit: Ran it in compatibility mode, but still getting the crashes. Specifically Visual Studio Just-in-Time unhandled exception [24224]

With TTW Interiors, you should use TTWInteriors - Trophies - Megaton.esp. So you should skip TTW - Trophies - Megaton.esp, which is for "vanilla" TTW.

undo the XP3 compat mode, that won't help.

edit your ini's settings for these

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1

bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1

See if those help, they do for me, and I don't recommend Zan's it causes bugs with TTW.

Thanks Roy, unfortunately I already had those ini tweaks and if you mean Zans AutoPurge Crash Protector, I do not have that installed. :-/

Yeah the winxp compatibility did not solve anything. :(

Sounds like you are having issues with whatever graphics enhancements you are using. Also if you are using NVSR and NVAC do *not* turn on NVSR's heap replacement, or it will cause this issue too. Better to use NVSE's initial heap replacement.

@RoyBatty, Definitely could

Post by SiriusScaper » Wed Nov 04, 2015 4:33 pm

@RoyBatty, Definitely could be, though I followed the guide for installing texture packs. To be clear should I delete the entries in the sr_new_vegas_stutter_remover.ini of the heap replacement so the nvse_config.ini heap settings are the default?

EDIT: or is it enough to have the bReplaceHeap = 0 under the master section in the stutter remover ini?
