Crashing Within 10-30 Mins of Gameplay

Post by Addy » Thu Oct 08, 2015 3:11 am

Hi everyone, I recently got a new graphics card, the GTX 970, after my oldcard stopped working, and for some reason, it seems to crash after around 10-30 minutes within the game. Weird thing is, my old card, the AMD Raedon HD 7770, ran most of the mods, aside from the ENB, flawlessly and only started stuttering after continuous gameplay, rather than crashing. I'm very confused as to what is causing this, and I would greatly appreciate some feedback. I have tried to run the game without the ENB through a new save, but it still crashes regardless on that new save. I have also tweaked the three INI's from the TTW Performance Guide, installed NVAC and NVSR. My load order is attached, as well as TTW Install log.

Specs:

OS: Windows 10

CPU: Intel i5-3570K

RAM: 8.00 GB

Mod Manager: FOMM 0.14.11.12

FO3 Info: Steam GOTY Download

Thank you for your help, and I'm a bit new here, so if I have to move this thread somewhere else, please let me know.

Are you using the 4GB Patch for FNV?

Also, can you upload your enblocal.ini as well?

One thing to consider is cooling.  Your old card stuttered after a while of continuous gameplay.  Your new card is bigger and generates more heat.  Possibly, it is overheating your computer and causing the crash.  How good is your cooling?  How much airflow does your case allow?  What are the temps of your GPU, CPU, and Northbridge when playing vs. at idle?

You can test this out with Open Hardware Monitor, a free temp/load monitoring program, and then running test software like Intel Burn Test or Prime95 which are designed to stress-test your machine and generate heat.

I am using the 4GB patch, and my enblocal will be attached.

The cooling issue might be the problem. I only use my GPU and CPU's fan, totaling to 3, because my other fans died out. I have a feeling that's it.

Here are the temps:

Idle            Playing (High from IntelBurnTest, 2048 MB)

CPU:   38 C          65-75 C

GPU:   40 C         44 C

Mobo: 35 C         60 C

Should I have used the High setting on IntelBurnTest, or a custom setting?

I just ran the benchmark, here are the stats:

FPS 66.5

Score: 1675

Min FPS: 8.7

Max FPS: 148.8

Settings-

Render: Direct3D11

Mode: 1600x900 8xAA windowed

Preset: Extreme

I tried to attach the HTML file but that extension doesn't seem to work.

Change

ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true to false

and see if still crashes.

You could running Burntest with the full ram set up, so it uses all your memory.  Things will get a lot hotter that way.  Your motherboard temp seems pretty high at 60 degrees, but GPU and CPU look OK.

The fact that you don't have any fans in your case besides CPU and GPU kind of makes me wonder if that's the issue.  Even if it's not you should really replace you burned out fans.  120mm fans are like $10.  Get some new ones.
