Okay, I got my Vault built (I think), but now I think I broke Edit!

I was able to load it in the GECK, finally, and I recompliled the one script and closed it, and then reopened it in Edit to remove the dirty worldspace edits and poke a few other things, and then I closed it because I wanted to load another mod with it and copy some equipment over, and I did something I don't remember, things started disappearing and I closed without saving, and now whatever I load in FNVEdit, the View window is blank. I can still right-click and see the Move Up, Move Down, Hide No Conflict Rows, and Column Widths buttons, but the view window itself is just a solid white wall. (Messages and Information still work.) Doesn't matter what mod I load or if it's just FalloutNV.esm, I get nothing in the View window. I'm about to try reinstalling unless you have a better idea.

EDIT: Nope, that didn't work. What the hell did I do and how do I fix it?

For how long? Because so far that's not working and my arm's getting tired. This is after I deleted the .exe, the .dat, and the Edit Scripts folder and then reinstalled them (and the TTW's Edit Scripts folder). Also, it seems that I'm only allowed to edit one cell of my house/vault at a time. If I try to jump into another cell, the GECK freezes.

When using the GECK, make sure you have any other windows closed that use directX at all, including browsers with like you tube or any thing else that uses flash.

It's a good idea to run it as admin, in vista sp2 compatibility mode and to LAA patch it with the ntcore utility.

As for your mod, it sounds like you did something to corrupt it in FNVEdit, better start over.

Oh yeah, fnvedit keeps backups of edited plugins in the Data\FNVEdit folder, GECK keeps backups in the Backup folder.

I don't know what I did but my house works now. I'm even playing with it. The game loads, the armor works, the weapons show up, and I can edit it in the NV GECK as easily as in FO3. My Edit, however, still has a blank View window.

Okay, I started to make a merged patch and suddenly my View window works again. I HAVE NO IDEA. But it's at this point that I need to come clean on what I call my superpower: I break the unbreakable in Bethesda games. I've had horses attack buildings. I've had NPCs turn into other NPCs for no reason I or anyone else can possibly fathom. I've had a script teleport me when there wasn't a coc, placeatme or moveto in the whole damn thing. I had a script with a command to make the player fall down, and it made my health stop regenerating even with console commands. I got a hunting mod that made my crosshairs turn invisible (not be disabled, turn invisible) and the mod author didn't even know you could do that. These are Elder Scrolls games, though, and up until this fracas with Edit I'd thought that my Fallout 3/NV was going to be spared.

I didn't want to tell you because after I got my problems solved, I was going to offer my services as a beta tester. I have experience with a mod team, I'm very good at spotting things that need fixing, and I can even be persuaded to fix them myself if it aggravates my OCD enough. I also have a passion, almost a compulsion, for building interiors. My game runs normally enough most of the time, I just have the occasional... fluke. After I told them about my superpower, though, the Skywind team mysteriously stopped responding to my messages. :(

So there it is. My heart's on the table, here's a Super Sledge, go for it.

Note to self: after sleeping and work, go into bug-finding mode and figure out what's making me crash every time I try to access my world map.

Okay, it was my house mod

Post by JetpackAngel » Wed Jun 17, 2015 7:48 am

Okay, it was my house mod making me crash, because as it turns out, if you change the icon on a map marker then apparently you have to create a new save. EDIT: I take that back, actually: I changed the icon back, but it's still crashing in certain places. If I check it in Megaton or right outside it, it's fine. If I get as far as Springvale, I crash. Gonna try turning off my house. ALSO EDIT: Dammit, it is my house. Well, I haven't gotten very far in this save so I'll just go back to my pre-mod end-of-v101 save. If it's still acting screwy I may ask you to have a look. You can also examine my interiors and see if I've got anything resembling skill. ALSO ALSO EDIT: May actually not be my house, because I'm standing right outside it (right on the western edge of Minefield) and I can look at my world map just fine. Something between my house and Megaton is making my map crash, which is stupid because I can view the entire map wherever I happen to be standing, so... Oh, please don't tell me that mentioning my superpower made it kick in.

In what order should I install Project Nevada, CASM, and the Mod Configuration Menu? Whatever I do, something's not happy. If I do the MCM last, some of PN's things don't actually work (as in I can't sprint because it's not accepting the new keybind), and this latest time I did PN last and the MCM stopped showing up, period. I also tried the Unified HUD Project but that didn't work either.

I think I've got my house

Post by JetpackAngel » Sun Jun 21, 2015 7:39 am

I think I've got my house-vault sorted out, except that I'm still not sure about my map problem. I haven't done much more testing on that because I spent for hours the other night trying to fix something else, and I've hit a brick wall.

I decided to make an equipment room, make it its own cell since there would be so many objects in it. The walls are lined with guns behind collision boxes and there are safes for storage, and there's workbenches and all kinds of neat stuff. Okay, when I first converted it to New Vegas and tried to enter that room, either my game would freeze mid-load, it would freeze upon loading, or the screen would go black and nothing would happen. I assumed it was a bad mesh, because it's happened to me before, so I started removing one section of guns at a time and then trying to enter the room again. At one point I thought I had it because I could move around just fine, so I put that section back and started removing guns individually. I still got screen-blackouts. I got frustrated and removed that section again, plus the sections on either side of it. Still blacking out. I give up. Any idea what's going on?

Very well. I have one last question and then I'll leave your forum alone: is there a console command to force your house to decorate itself? I got the Megaton house, but Moira didn't have any themes or house upgrades until I added them to her inventory myself. Purchasing them, however, did nothing, and evidently I'm not using the right refID (even though I am) because the console keeps saying that I'm not using a valid refID for a "enable [refID]" command, so I can't attempt to enable the workbench or its x-marker myself.
