Low FPS on high end system

Post by bobdole776 » Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:45 am

Hi, I've been trying desperately to fix my super low fps issue I've been having since installing TTW. I've tried ini fixes, 4 gig patch, and latest fose. I even did a fresh install of NV with a fresh installl of TTW just to see if it would fix my issue, alas it did not. CPU utilization seems Alright for the game; it uses a good amount of the 8 core cpu, about 5 cores. GPU utilization is very very low though, getting around 10%. I had sli enabled before but disabled it as some said it causes issues with the game. Back before I installed TTW I got 60 fps constant, then after much lower. I've uninstalled the few mods I have but with no change to fps. Mod order is correct, used loot and then cross-checked it against install faqs. Fallout 3 is normal version with dlc purchased a very long time ago from GFWL; NV is game of year edition, both games on steam. Game gets constant 60 fps in small spaces such as in vault 101, but as soon as I leave vault fps drops to ~25 fps; megaton is ~60. I have used the most recent version of TTW and installer worked perfectly. I did use NMM to install the bsa's and it did so with no errors; its the latest version. As a note, when walking around in springvale, while getting super low fps eventually the game will ctd.

Latest nvidia driver installed also.

CPU and GPU not overheating.

CPU is at 4.8 ghz; AMD FX9730, so should be able to accommodate the game.

8 gigs 2ghz dd3 memory

AMD cpu, Nvidia card\s

Graphics card and CPU are overclocked. Think this might be whats causing the issue? I remember from messing with some older games from times past that they tend to not like any oc as for some reason the game doesn't use enough of the card, so therefore the card either downclocks or just doesn't utilize proper, not sure this issue can pop up for NV. Card is staying at normal clock speed.

Any input will be greatly appreciated on this matter. I've tried desperately for some time to get the game to run properly. I don't seem to have missing assets while playing the game, just super low fps. I'd love to play this mod as fo3 is way better with NV mechanics.

Thanks and if you need any additional info, please don't hesitate to ask.

4GB installed?

Post by KeltecRFB » Sat Nov 01, 2014 12:34 pm

4GB installed?

EDIT:  I see now you have the 4GB Utility listed.  However, is it installed correctly, check the log.  For the longest time, I did not run 4GB "patch" correctly.

Latest FOSE? You need NVSE

Latest FOSE? You need NVSE not FOSE.

Well my TTW runs quite good without any extra mods, so I don't know if you tried running TTW without any other mods just to see if it runs better? Also are you playing with texture mods?

@Bob, remember to consider TTW as FoNV, not Fo3.

just some basic info. FNV was never very good at using the full potential of a pc. it's a 32 bit base program so by it's self it wil only use 2gigs of your 8gigs. luckily there are things that cane help. my specs are below and i'm have only a little bit of hic ups when LOD's (distant land) start to "come into focus". i'm running about 40ish mods and as many texture mods as i can get my hands on plu TTW. so here are some things that help. fnv4g like Keltec suggest above. stutter remover (requires NVSE). NVAC. there is a texture Optimizer that can speed things up, but i wouldn't use it unless you know what your doing. NVSE should have downloaded when TTW was installing. but as rise pointed out make sure you have NVSE not FOSE.

Things that have helped me:

My system isn't all that current, but was fairly high end a year or two ago (3.2GHz Core i5, Nvidia GTX480+). Here are things that I've found helped significantly:

4GB loader (I won't include another link) makes a huge difference, especially in Freeside for some reason.

The New Vegas Stutter Remover (search for it on the nexus) helps

Turning anti-aliasing down to 2x helps

Turning off stereoscopic 3D increase the frame rate by around 30%, but IMHO isn't worth it.

Disabling grass in the Fallout ini file (set bDrawShaderGrass=0) helps quite a bit, especially in FO3 areas.

Avoiding problematic models: I don't know why, but for some reason when I have stereo 3D turned on several mod-added weapons (e.g. the EOS-13 from NVEC/Nordic Firearms) cause a massive drop in FPS whenever they're visible on the screen. I just avoid using them. Most mod-added weapons don't seem to be a problem. I imagine a similar issue may exist with armor or hairstyles.

Having done all that, I'm running in stereo 1920x1080 with an average frame rate of around 45fps, dipping into the mid 20's in some places.

Sorry about FOSE, I meant

Post by bobdole776 » Sat Nov 01, 2014 7:48 pm

Sorry about FOSE, I meant NVSE. Yea I have the latest one installed. About the 4gig patch, didn't know there was one, I'll have to look into that.

As for texture mods, I used to have some installed years ago but as stated above, I did a fresh install to try and figure if mods caused any issue to fps, alas they aren't the issue as far as I can tell.

Not 100% sure that's the log you want to see, but from what I can tell, it seems to be working.

Need more info just let me know. Going to go over the 4gig patch, but as far as I can tell, its just drag and drop from their page.

I might try downclocking my

Post by bobdole776 » Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:03 pm

I might try downclocking my cpu and gpu to see if thats the issue. It has been for games in the past, such a dumb issue. Hell could even be a graphics driver issue. Ever since I installed the latest driver, skyrim and wow give me a nice error when loading, and wow wont even load in 64 bit anymore. Error states...

"The procedure entry point Direct3DCreate9Ex could not be located in the dynamic link library d3d9.dll."

This is what I get when I run skyrim, states Skyrim:TESV.exe - Entry point not found.

This error popped up after last driver update. Think I might need to do a fresh video driver install? If so this sounds more like a corrupted directx library, I've never had such an issue before so don't know how to install fresh copy of directx.

Mind you skyrim still runs and gets really good fps, with like 100 mods.

Uninstall nvidia experience

Post by RoyBatty » Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:56 pm

Uninstall nvidia experience and the errors will go away.

Use NVSR and you can cap the frame limit at 60.

I have an old C2D machine with a 580 and I get anywhere from 30-60 fps heavily modded graphics wise.
