Having problems with TTW installer (only with a DLC)

Post by FullMetalOrange35 » Mon Oct 27, 2014 10:18 pm

Last week I found this mod and decided to give it a shot yesterday and installed a fresh copy of Fallout 3 GOTY and Fallout NV Ultimate Edition through Steam, both fully updated, with Clean ESMs (using FNVEdit and FO3Edit), and with the right load order.

Now that im trying to install the new TTW version through the installer, everything seems fine until it gets to ThePitt ESM

He means he cleaned his DLCs.

He means he cleaned his DLCs. Probably because he's a Skyrim guy. You can't do that with Fallout, Skyrim guy. Don't clean any of the official files.

Not that I use cleaned DLC

Not that I use cleaned DLC files anymore, but, why is cleaning the DLC files bad for the Fallout games in particular (technical reasons, I mean)? I know with New Vegas, there use to be issues caused by it, but, they seemed to be fixed by later versions of FNVEdit (last I checked when I was using cleaned files). Also, cleaning official DLC files actually got its start in Oblivion, if I remember right. It just carried over to Skyrim.

Well in the case of TTW it's because altered FO3 DLCs can't be read by the installer. In all honesty, I fail to see the point to cleaning the DLCs. If they are put in release order, if I remember correctly, they don't override anything important. In addition to that, all mods should be loaded after the official DLC, so they should automatically override anything of interest in the official DLCs.

I'm not stating with certainty that it's pointless, but it seems logically so.

Well, from what I understand, if a record is changed way to many times by different plugins, it causes issues (not sure what issues, exactly, been awhile since I read up on it). Removing records in the DLCs that make no alterations whatsoever (ITM) helps alliviate this issue. With deleted references, if a mod tries to reference the deleted recorded, it causes issues like crashes, which is why xEdit offers an alternative in the form of undeleting and disabling these references.
