Hard drive size

Post by tronak66 » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:40 pm

Thinking of upgrading to ssd drive for heavily modded game. Looking at one thats 120 gb but I really don't believe its big enough. Right now I am in the midst of reinstalling my game, but as I am trying to learn Mod Organizer I may not be reinstalled until I ether give up and go back to nmm or they make installing ui more idiot proof. My game is close to 30 gb with no mods installed and I have plans (dreams) of a game with upwards of 200 + mods. Also isn't it a good idea or nessassary for your game drive to have empty space on it for virtual memory reasons or something?

I have a 120 and it suits me just fine for what I use it for. That said, it probably isn't big enough for more than one heavily modded game.

Also: I hope to never have to help you with tech support. In fact, I'm pretty sure no team member would help you once they saw your load order.

200 mods might not mean 200

200 mods might not mean 200 plugins... I hope a lot of those are just texture replacer mods. I hope

hehe ok ok, dreams squashed:) My game usually runs about 130 including 10 of jetcon72's  superhero suits which are so easily converted into one mod:) Admittedly that number has always been satisfactory to me, that is till reading that some people are running around with 255:(

It's just that I've been watching some pro videos and noticed the using of ssd drives that were in the red and didnt look right to me:(

Please don't double post --TJ

No, sadly was considering mods (wasn't even considering texture mods which are really the reason I am so anxious to learn the Mod Organizer), but it was only a dream, the nightmare has never been realized:)

Take it from me: nobody on this planet is using 255 actual plugins with FNV. Not. Happening.

It is worth noting that SSD performance is also proportional to the maximum capacity of the drive, up to the limits of the storage controller, and that it is best practice to leave your SSD at least 50% empty.

Thank you very much, in the past have had issues with "out of memory" crashes. The Mod Organizer seems to be heavily reliant on virtual memory, seems to me that free space on game drive must coincide with said virtual memory. Gonna finish current install and to get some measurements lol.

Out of memory crashes are due

Post by RoyBatty » Thu Oct 16, 2014 2:43 pm

Out of memory crashes are due to the games heap being exhausted, this is due to a few reasons. First you need something like FNV4GB to increase the available address space, then you need to use NVSE's initial heap replacement option. NVSR has a heap replacement for the other heaps which are not the same as the NVSE one. Finally, the game's more aggressive garbage collection routines are not enabled by default, they can be however.
