Problem with EVE forum thread

Post by qobfrajj » Sun Aug 10, 2014 12:03 am

The thread for the EVE compatibility patch linked from the FAQ appears to be broken. If you're logged in, clicking on the thread while viewing the Converted Mods forum will work and you'll get a message in the upper right saying that the request tried to create an infinite loop but was stopped. If you try to access it from the FAQ or my link here, or from anywhere while not logged in, it actually DOES create an infinite loop and your browser kills the request (at least in Firefox and Chrome), so you can never actually see the page.

I guess this forum is intended for technical support with the mod itself, but I didn't see a more appropriate place to report this.

Verified and removed the links from the FAQ. Access the page from the forum. If anybody gets the chance to build a new EVE patch that's not bugged start a new thread, and I (or another mod) will link to the new one in that thread, lock that thread, and re-add the bit about EVE to the FAQ.

You guys need to PM me if you have this issue again.  It's caused by the following (unlikely, but possible) scenario:

  1. New thread is created at URL: http://taleoftwowastelands/content/title-of-new-thread

  2. Someone later changes thread title, changing the URL: http://taleoftwowastelands/content/new-title-of-thread

  3. The site automatically creates a redirect, so the old URL still works.

  4. Someone changes the thread title BACK to the old title/URL (this is the unlikely part): http://taleoftwowastelands/content/title-of-new-thread

  5. The redirect is still there, creating an infinite loop.

I just have to manually delete the redirect if that happens, which is exceedingly rare.  So, the old link (that was in the FAQ) works again.  https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/eve-ttw-combined-fo3-fnv-eves
