Starting in Doc Mitchell's every time.

Post by MartyChang » Sat Apr 05, 2014 12:08 am

Hey guys, got TTW 2.4 installed with minimum difficulties (just some file directory hassles) and when I create a new game it plays the New Vegas intro then the Fallout 3 intros. After that it puts me in Doc Mitchell's.

I'm on a 100% CLEAN INSTALL, no funky mods to be found. Load order is exactly like the examples I've seen. I did the FOMOD installation and it works fine, the main menu is also the TTW background.

Running on Windows 7, On a 6100 6-core. I'm using Nexus Mod Manager 0.45.7. Both games are up to date Steam versions, fallout 3 being GOTY. I own all DLCs.

I've googled my problem and seen a few people with it on the forum, but 100% of them is just those people having 100+ mods and expecting them to work smoothly with an alpha.

Any help is appreciated.

I use the same version of NMM

Post by farmerboy464 » Sat Apr 05, 2014 12:17 am

I use the same version of NMM, and I couldn't get it to install correctly either.  NMM gets confused with those large FOMOD files.  I had to use FOMM.  If you go that route, remember to download the upgraded FOMM launcher (found on the Alpha Download page) so that FOMM doesn't get confused too.

The installation went fine,

The installation went fine, all of the files are there and the FOMODS installed and activated perfectly. Upon launching the game there are all the telltale signs that the installation worked such as the main menu, new loading screens (and tips I think I saw).

After that it just plops me into Doc Mitchell's and that ceiling fan is starting to get to me every time I see it!

I rechecked back through threads where people have had the same problem and I saw that there might be some .ini difficulties, but mine were fine.

There is a step in the manual

There is a step in the manual install that involves editing an ini file. i cant remember the specifics but you could check to make sure that your ini file got changed correctly, and if not, fix it.

FOMM is what you want to be using over NMM to install the TTW fomod. I dont know the inner workings of either and Im pretty sure NMM can install it properly, but from what I've seen on the forums here FOMM has less issues (assuming you use an LAA exe). If you really like NMM just use FOMM to install TTW and nothing else if/when you later decide to start extra modding.

EDIT Forgot to post it when I wrote it. I dont know why you start in NV if you installed correctly and the ini files look fine. You could still try using FOMM to install but other than that, no idea.

Except to make sure you have the plugins selected and grabbed all the hotfixes from the download page.

Thanks for your reply.

It turned out to be my own fault. Before posting this thread I had to move my New Vegas files back to the harddrive where Steam is installed because of some directory nonsense. Apparently Steam doesn't like having more than one folder for games which is problematic when a harddrive gets full! This only became a problem when NMM tried launching the game from my steam folder in (D:) when my files were in (E:). I was getting some sort of load error message but copying New Vegas there fixed it.

Anyways, for some reason the .ini changed to default during all of this, so I changed it to a fix I read from a post by TJ. http://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/new-game-issue

Games working fine now, god speed to you wizards for getting this stuff to work.
