Merged patch merges only

Post by zilav » Sun Jul 05, 2015 3:37 pm

Merged patch merges only lists: leveled lists, lists of spells on NPCs, list of items in containers, etc. It doesn't do anything at all with (sub)records that are not lists.

Wrye Bash also handles lists but on a much lesser scale, but it also merges subrecords which are not lists.

And that is the only difference if not taking bash tags into account. With proper tags WB can do a lot more and in a more "right" way than xEdit. But that usually requires manual inspection of records as Roy mentioned.

Sharlikrans has just as many

Post by RoyBatty » Mon Jul 06, 2015 12:22 am

Sharlikrans has just as many tags as Valda's does, last I used it. I don't know who "lojack" is.

A merged patch would've properly put that record together as well.

Removing features is silly

Post by RoyBatty » Mon Jul 06, 2015 9:55 pm

Removing features is silly and makes the tool even less useful...

I just checked, it seems that valda is maintaining it again himself?

Maybe I will try it again then, but I am confused on which version to try.

RoyBatty: Yeah, I've noticed some issues like that with compatibility patches. Luckily WryeFlash allows you to change masters (and I think FNVEdit does as well?), so with some work that sort of thing can be fixed.

I also have one I'm actually looking at as I write this that has Project Nevada - Core.esm prioritized above FalloutNV.esm. Not the exact problem you're describing, but still, no words to describe how they messed that one up.

And to add to the wall of text I made above, I forgot to mention FormID Lists. If you're making a Bashed patch, be sure to compare FormID Lists as well. Like the leveled lists, WryeFlash likes to just mash everything together on the FormID Lists. It can also miss some things surprisingly, so you'll want to keep an eye on those for the same reason. I added some custom FormID changes to a mod I was tweaking, and while the Merged patch picked those up, WryeFlash did not.

I guess it's easiest to say that with the Merged patch you're often adding content, and with the Bashed patch you're probably removing it :P

if the tags delev for removal of items from lists and relev for adding items to lists and you can use those two tags together on a plugin that both adds and removes from lists

Relev is to change data on

Post by zilav » Thu Jul 23, 2015 6:02 am

Relev is to change data on items in leveled lists like "Level" and "Extra Data" (which includes condition for example). Adding to lists is the default function of bashed patch and doesn't need any tags.
