Game not progressing through loading screens

Post by BrokenC » Tue Jul 23, 2013 5:55 pm

Hi all!

Having a little bit of a problem here. I set up TTW yesterday and began playing it today, loving it thus-far.

However, I saved after a short while (in megaton) and left. Coming back to the game, I try to either load or continue my game and the loading screens (with the little roulette spinner) happen as normal. The issue is, they don't stop. The game never loads, I've left it for 15 minutes to no avail. If I try to ctl-alt-del out, it black screens and I'm stuck to do a hard reboot.

A suggestion is that it may be an issue with my load order, so here it is:

Well the TTW and FO3 esms

Post by plumjuice » Tue Jul 23, 2013 6:15 pm

Well the TTW and FO3 esms should go before all other mods, as indicated on the dl page. Nothing else seems to be lethal.

Have you:

-Deleted your ini file and let the game make a new one?

-Verified your steam cache?

-Loaded an earlier save?

Having to reboot sounds a bit odd though. ALTCTRLDEL should either launch that stupid menu I keep forgetting to disable, or opens task manager. When you say reboot, you are talking about the computer and not restarting the game right?

Post by BrokenC » Tue Jul 23, 2013 6:31 pm

I have already tried both: with the masters in the order as defined by TTW with NVinteriors and Project Nevada below, and this order, which was defined by BOSS. Both leads to the same problem, so that doesn't seem to be the main issue here.

I have not yet deleted the .ini, and if I do, I will need to recopy in the [fonts] section to ake darNified work.

Loaded an earlier save didn't allow me to progress past the loading screens either.

I'll verify the cache, then let you know if it's been of any use. Another user also recommeded upgrading to the 4gb launcher, but the Nexus is having some issues letting me download it.

And yes, by reboot I mean computer.

Well, I would just rename

Post by plumjuice » Tue Jul 23, 2013 6:39 pm

Well, I would just rename your current ini to test. If it doesn't help, change the name back. If the only thing you did was change the font section, it is nigh impossible to be the cause. Check it anyway, but have low expectations.

While it may not be applicable to this specific issue, I would still suggest you keep the load order as indicated on the dl page. The reason boss has them where they are has nothing to do with a different set order, it doesn't know where to pu them at all, so it puts them at the bottom of their section.

If you have a x64 system, the 4gb launcher should be help. Probably not for this issue, but may prevent a few random crashes in the future.

The few recollections I have of reports of infinite load screens (never had them myself) had to do with either corrupt files or bad ini tweaks. If neither a new ini or verifying the cache help, I'm out of ideas, sorry. Hopefully someone with a little more know how wanders by soon.

Infinite loading screens huh?

Post by MrMedicinal » Tue Jul 23, 2013 9:49 pm

Infinite loading screens huh? Thats unfortunate. I have experienced them as well, lower end pc's seem to do this for what ever reason.

Personally i don't know a sure fire fix for it though. Try killing your game in the task manager, and starting New Vegas again, that really does help (me) for whatever reason. After the second to third FNV boot up it generally loads the game.

Like Plum said verify your cache, and if that doesn't work perhaps defragmenting your New Vegas might.

If all else fails, i think it may be time to uninstall, and reinstall both games completely, and re-patch TTW.

Hi MrMedicinal.

I wouldn't exactly call my PC 'low end', I doubt it's anything to do with the processing power in my machine.

Already verified the cache, there were 2 missing files. Running the 4gb Launcher has also allowed me to SOMETIMES get past the loading screens and even play for a little while, but it'll always crash at one point or another.

When the game crashes, 9/10 times I can't use the task manager, it gets stuck behind the black screen left by the game window. Massively inconvineient as I really want to play TTW!

I really want to hold off on uninstalling and reinstalling everything as A: It takes a long time, and B: If I don't know what the problem is, it doesn't really help me if it doesn't work. Perhaps the problem is with one of the particular mods?

System specs would be useful, generally low memory is what kills TTW. When you CTRL+ALT+DEL and get a black screen, have you tried using ALT+TAB to manually try to force focus to the task manager? I have to do that sometimes as well.

If you didn't install TTW over a completely clean install of FNV (including INI files), then you might want to do that now. I know you said you were hesitant, but that helps us get closer to a base line so we can try and diagnose.

Hi Jax.

Hi Jax.

I've attached my dxdiag, hopefully the information in there will be of some use to you or other users in determining the problem! It was a completely clean install of FNV when I installed TTW as I installed it for this purpose.

I can't ALT-TAB out either, the task manager is there, but it all remains firmly benieth the black screen. I can even windows-key out to my Windows 8 start menu, but the desktop is unchanged.

An uninstall of FNV and TTW then starting from scratch is probably a good idea. Wouldn't know how to go about it effectively though, I'm sure I'd accidently leave some important files about!

With only 4GB of RAM and running windows 8 I would be fairly certain that your computer is RAM starved.

BUT I know little of Win8.

Post by BrokenC » Thu Jul 25, 2013 6:15 pm

Well, obviously more RAM can't hurt! But as you probably know, RAM defines how effectively your computer can run multiple memory-hungry processes (usually audio/video editing software), it rarely effects single processes, like games. That's my understanding of it anyway, across all OS platforms.

I think it may well be time to scrap it and start again from the ground up, and steadily add my mods to see if that points out a problem!

Could you link me to an 'uninstall' walkthrough please, would make the process so much easier :)

Thanks for all the help!
