Mouse and keyboard are unresponsive (Everything else works fine)

Post by Cynder678 » Thu Jul 04, 2013 6:31 pm

I don't know if this is grave lack of common sense on my part but when I reach the main menu when I startup the game, the mouse is unresponsive and so is the keyboard. Now the thing about this is that everything else seems to be working fine (Background images are alternating as normal) and I can still access the Steam overlay even though the game itself does not respond to key presses. Can someone help please?

Load order is correct by the way so it can't be that. (It certainly looks correct).

TTW aggregates a great many

Post by TrickyVein » Thu Jul 04, 2013 6:56 pm

TTW aggregates a great many resources. It takes a while longer to load on startup compared to vanilla.

It may seem unresponsive for a time.

Whether it takes much longer than what seems befitting depends of course on your hardware.

There is absolutely no way that I could see how activating plugins somehow prevents you from using inputs like the mouse and keyboard. It may be worthwhile to use the 4GB enabler or try running the game in fake fullscreen mode. And recheck if your machine meets the minimum specs for the game. This bespeaks a hardware/graphics issue to me and not an installer issue.

Was it a clean install of both FO3 and FNV when you installed TTW? Post your load order anyway, so that we can see what other mods you have loaded, someone may spot a known trouble mod. If it takes more than a minute or so to load and you are running a fairly modern computer, then there is a problem.

This is my load order:

Post by Cynder678 » Thu Jul 04, 2013 7:59 pm

This is my load order:

  • FalloutNV.esm

  • CaravanPack.esm

  • ClassicPack.esm

  • MercenaryPack.esm

  • DeadMoney.esm

  • HonestHearts.esm

  • OldWorldBlues.esm

  • LonesomeRoad.esm

  • GunRunnersArsenal.esm

  • Fallout3.esm

  • Anchorage.esm

  • ThePitt.esm

  • BrokenSteel.esm

  • PointLookout.esm

  • Zeta.esm

  • TaleOfTwoWastelands.esm

  • (The optional ones for TTW are unchecked)

It was a clean install (hence the lack of other mods).

EDIT: Fallout 3 is a clean install as well.

...I guess it was due to severe lack of common sense on my part. Sorry for wasting time

EDIT: Rearranged the load order to be exactly like its required to be but the mouse continues to be unresponsive and so does the keyboard

Strangely, the game does not

Post by Cynder678 » Thu Jul 04, 2013 9:12 pm

Strangely, the game does not actually crash (everything runs normally), its just that I cannot move my mouse to navigate the main menu as the cursor just sits in the middle of the screen and does not move when I move the mouse itself and no matter how many times I press as arrow key on the keyboard, the highlight box does not appear. Although I have noticed that If I do not do anything even when the title screen pops up that the cursor locks itself into position however, If I do anything before I reach the main menu then the game does indeed crash. I am on the end of my tether with this and have tried every possible solution available to me.

When you say you've tried

Post by TrickyVein » Fri Jul 05, 2013 12:09 am

When you say you've tried every possible solution, you're backing yourself into a corner needlessly. There is an issue here, maybe not related to the install of TTW but to hardware and we just need to figure out what it is.

If we knew what OS you are using and your hardware specs we could probably narrow down where to look for that solution.

When you say

What exactly do you mean? Can you begin a new game and play 'normally?' Otherwise, not being able to move your mouse or select options at startup isn't normal, obviously.

What is your mouse sensitivity, looking in falloutprefs.ini (in mygames)?

When you did a clean install

Post by JaxFirehart » Fri Jul 05, 2013 12:16 am

When you did a clean install of NV did you let it rebuild your ini files as well? As in did you delete everything in my games/falloutnv? INI issues are probably the #1 cause of TTW issues.

Yes, everything was clean

Post by Cynder678 » Fri Jul 05, 2013 3:02 pm

Yes, everything was clean when I installed TTW. I ran the game at the start and let it autoconfigure the settings for me. Ran the game again after installing TTW and when the first background slide image popped up, so did the mouse cursor. I was able to move it around for a couple of seconds until it stops moving and it becomes stuck at the first background image (Which I take it signifies a crash). Another problem crops up that If I do not touch the mouse or the keyboard and let the game reach the background image of the NCR Elite Ranger then the mouse cursor does not respond to the movement of the mouse. While I am not able to do anything, the main menu still alternates between different background images as per usual and I am able to access the Steam overlay as per usual.

Seems that I'm at a loss/loss situation at this point.

EDIT: I thought it might be beneficial to know that I installed the Fallout 3 DLCs using the DLC in a copy of Fallout 3 GOTY edition. Might it be that TTW does not support any other version of DLCs other than those bought from the steam client?

You should have an install

Post by JaxFirehart » Fri Jul 05, 2013 4:26 pm

You should have an install log located in my documents/my games/TaleOfTwoWastelands attach it here so I can verify your install.
