This exact same problem

Post by TrickyVein » Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:45 pm

This exact same problem accompanied another user. It would be helpful to know if both of you have the same system specs.

Do you have any loose files?

If you do, delete them and run the game again.

If the problem persists, extract the following from your 'fallout - meshes.bsa' in your Fallout 3 data folder into your NV data folder (also do this if you don't have any loose files):

meshes\dungeons\neoclassical\tallroom

And see if that fixes it.

You uploaded an uncompressed image?

Yeah sorry, couldn't bother

Yeah sorry, couldn't bother opening it up in photoshop or anything (Replacing it with a puush upload now)

And what do you mean by loose files?

I will try the mesh.bsa thing.

Edit: Mesh.bsa workout didn't work. Extracted the folders and no change.

Sorry! I meant to say

Sorry! I meant to say 'bighall' not 'tallroom.'

Extract 'meshes\dungeons\neoclassical\bighall' to your NV data folder instead.

Also make sure you have your archive invalidation activated.

Now, I don't know if you have knowledge of Nifskope and the .nif file format, which is what Bethesda uses to package assets or meshes for the game, but if you do, then good.

For some reason, each of the .nifs in the '\neoclassical\tallroom' folder has an NiAlphaPropety attached to the node for the walls/ceilings. You'll notice that the walls themselves aren't white, but that you're actually looking through them into a white 'void.' This is truly befuddling to me because it seems not everyone is running the same version of the game and that these meshes either come with this extra property or they don't. In other words, my install of Fallout 3 does not include the same resources that yours does.

1) For a quick fix, since you have photoshop, locate the following texture

'textures\dungeons\neoclassical\NeoclassicalMainTile03.dds'

extract it, and delete it's alpha channel (or fill it white: 255,255,255).

2) OR you can open up each of the twenty .nifs in the 'bighall' folder and go through and delete the NiAlphaProperty from the nodes in question.

I installed NMCs texture pack

Post by Partyprime » Wed Jul 31, 2013 1:22 am

I installed NMCs texture pack (the new vegas one) while trying to figure this thing out and it appears NMCs pack also replaces the textures/meshes in jefersson memorial (must be a shared texture also used in New vegas) which also means i dont have the white thingy.

I'll uninstall NMC and see if your workaround also works (for other people who have this issue)

The texture is re-used in NV

Post by TrickyVein » Wed Jul 31, 2013 2:41 am

The texture is re-used in NV and used across more than one tileset as are most others, but the meshes are unique to Fallout 3. They were not re-used in NV.

It's not that the texture has an incorrect alpha channel (I just confirmed that both NV and Fallout 3 versions are the same, with the alpha channel unchanged between them); it's that the meshes themselves from Fallout 3 are flagged as having alpha.

I've just extracted these meshes from my Fallout 3 archive and - lo and behold - each are flagged with alpha. That's how they were packaged with Fallout 3 - and that's how they should be. In fact, for the walls/floors for these particular pieces, the same texture is used as both a stencil and diffuse layer, just one on top of the other. The diffuse layer is missing.

Right now, the only conclusion I have from all of this is that each of the .nifs are missing an NiTriStrips. Could this be caused by the limit imposed on the length of the file-path? Was it just 'chopped-off?'

This problem should absolutely be fixed by extracting these assets from your Fallout - meshes.bsa into your NV data folder and making sure archive invalidation is activated.
