That fixed it being a black screen, at least. My character was instead dropped on top of Doc Mitchell's house (from a height high enough to cause fall damage). So thanks!

Something is wrong here.
Something is wrong here. Check your .ini. Anyway, when you do get to the station in DC, have fun.

I mean after the train. Which
I mean after the train. Which is weird, as the save was inside the train, but loading drops me. Or is that a bug? I made a Forum Post about PN sprinting no longer working, because it doesn't. My INIs are attached, because there are several that seem relevant.

If you are starting at Doc's
If you are starting at Doc's instead of DC your ini is wrong. Look at the manual instructions and check the ini and make the changes to all 3.

I'm guessing it's still not
I'm guessing it's still not possible to play this starting in the Mojave? Since I just noticed your disclaimer at the bottom of the page about not using the start menu combined with the fact that there's no door where there is supposed to be in Freeside.
Derp....was following arrow quite literally into the wall....station was around the rubble pile.

I feel like an idiot, i read
I feel like an idiot, i read about how to get to the station way beforehand, I read that people were there and fooled by the modded area thinking it was vanilla, and I still fell for the same thing. I was literally at that station, in that area, and still had no idea that I was where I needed to be.
That's damn good work.

there is a start up option
there is a start up option that allows one to start in NV. once you get through the first transition then it'll be easier and you can travel anytime you want. mostly i think they are trying to keep things challenging. there have been numerous conversations about the why's and where's for everything TTW does.

the only thing stopping you
the only thing stopping you from going through union station at level < 10 is your ability to kill supermutants and ghouls with whatever you've picked up so far.

Well one way of doing it soon
Well one way of doing it soon is: get Dogmeat and Jericho if you can, go to the station using them as decoys and meat shields and keep doing it till you pass the station bit and ta-da it is done, also stock on stimpacks or any other healing items you can have, that helps too.
Like freakydoo said, you can use the TTW start menu to pick New Vegas and then just reach Freeside and you can come and go anytime you want.
The train station is the jewel of the crown of TTW, I don't think any Team member would make a mod to bypass it, your best chance would be anyone else from the community that would be willing to do it, so my advice is post on the mod request section of the site and see if anyone can help you making a mod for it
good luck
