My problem disappeared after making a completely clean and new vegas and fallout 3 installations and installing TTW on top of that.

Registered to chime in. Had the same issue, stripped all mods except TTW and it's sub mods, still crashing. Added the fix above and worked like a charm.

I'm experiencing a very similar issue, mine goes into a loading screen of the UN being disbanded in a fallout new vegas look and it crashes after 4-6 seconds.

Try right clicking the download link and choose "save as...", or whatever your browser equivalent is. It sounds like your computer's trying to download the .esp file as a .txt file.

Yes, we know. It's the speedtree data (like mentioned above). Please use ChuckSteel's fix for now.
