Installer Error

I am having issue getting the installer to work. I've browsed other issues and tried things such as verifying files for the base games, updating required libraries, trying to install to desktop, running as admin and altering my FIPS complience settings. An error message pops up and I click continue, as I saw recommended, but the installer just sits there. I've left it to run for over an hour but nothing is happening, something task manager confirms as well.


 


The installer seems to also have no issue locating FO3, but can't natively find the New Vegas folder (both steam versions). Running on Win XP SP3 (32bit) and trying to install Alpha 1.41a

The installer is running as it should, for some reason, the .bsa file is not being extracted properly. In my experience this issue is caused by not having the proper dependencies installed, which are listed on the alpha page. You said you already installed those dependencies though... so I'm at a loss.


Please try installing this and see if it runs, thanks.

When I was having my issues I installed VS 2012 and it still didn't work so I left it installed and reinstalled 2008 over it. Waiting to try building a new update but so far it's worked once...

I took a shot at the 2012 Redistributable, which seemed to allow the installer to find New Vegas but the error seemed to persist. I took some time to first repair and then uninstall and reinstall the 2010 and 2012 libraries and .NET framework 4.0 (both Client and Extended) and let Windows run its various updates to these from Automatic Updates. I also gave the 2008 reinstall a shot, as tjmidnight420 suggested.


None of these seem to have worked, and I think after reinstalling the Extended .NET 4, the installer is throwing up the error for BSAOpt_x32.exe "The procedure entry point RegSetKeyValueA could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll". A quick google seemed to show similar issues for people trying to use the BSAOpt app with Windows XP.


I will probably keep trying to play runtime whack-a-mole to see if there isn't something I'm missing. There seem to be so many releases and service packs and patches and such.

Thanks for doing the research, I hope it isn't a universal windows xp problem. I know a lot of people haven't upgraded yet. I will look into ways to do this without using BSAOpt. The program was built using visual basic 2010 express, will you please try downloading and installing that, its overkill but it might work. Its here.

VB 2010 Express was also a no go, though I think I have narrowed it down to a BSAOpt issue. I gave the individual BSAOpt a go, as its new 2.0 beta has XP support. Sadly the app seemed to be buggy and wouldn't run as it wasn't recognized as a win32 application (which others seem to have reported on its Nexus page). The 1.6.3 version did confirm the same dll issue as the TTW installer though, so I think my various Microsoft Libraries and Frameworks are ok.

Try copying the updated 2.0 BSAOpt to the installer directory. Inside the installer directory there is a folder "resources" inside that folder is two BSAOpt's BSAOpt_x64 and BSAOpt_x32. Overwrite those with the new 2.0 versions (make sure the names match precisely) and let me know if that changes anything.

I dropped the 2.0 XP BASOpt files into the Resource folder, renaming them to the correct x64 and x32 versions. New error message popped up about permissions access (both from running a normal attempt and one as Admin)
