Extreme freezing and performance issues

Recently re-installed NV, FO3 and TTW for a new playthrough. Complete clean install.


I've used TTW before and it's always worked flawlessly (first time using 2.2 though) but this time I'm getting really bad performance issues.


The main issue is saving. Quicksaving or autosaving takes around 30 seconds, during which the game s frozen. Disabling them and installing CASM didn't help, it still freezes. Entering an interior cell can take up to a minute.


I've been using pretty much the same load order for a long time now, just adding small mods here and there. I'm not sure where the problem is. Any help is appreciated.

You don't have an inkling of an idea of what's causing performance issues when you're using 141 plugins?


Then allow me help: it's probably because of all of all of those extra plugins that you have loaded. Also check your load order. It is incorrect (I could've sworn it was posted on the site, somewhere). 


There's no 'quick-fix' for this - it all depends on how much time you're willing to invest in your load order to find conflicts between mods and dirty edits; it may even be advantageous to merge plugins together. 


Get FNVEdit and look at your plugins, first. Then you'll have a better idea of where the conflicts lie.

I was running more on my last install and had no problems. Having too many plugins tends to result in missing meshes and textures, not random freezes.


Anyway, I'll cut some out and see what happens.


- going down to 100~ fixed nothing.

Did you fix the load order as well? Also I call Supreme Bullshit on you having no problems before, as that would make you the luckiest person on the planet.


As for reducing the amount of mods, it isnt like you are running 141 PN's or NVEC's, you have a bunch of single weapon mods, quite a few compat patches and DLC patches, and some miniscule stuff like ADAM. If you just took away a few of the smaller mods, it isn't the same as you getting rid of New Vegas Redesigned, or NSkies or Flashlight.


As Tricky suggested, open up the whole lot in fnvedit, have a look around and see if anything horrifically bad is going on. I am also pretty sure you can merge all Millenia's (and indeed most singular) weapon mods into one plugin.


With that many mods, a bashed and/or merged patch is a necessity. I hope you have one and have simply excluded it from the posted list.


You may also want to try CASM. It is heads above the vanilla "autosave" system

Personally i find that CASM is a bit unstable for my PC, and it caused similar freezing issues, but only when using TTW. This is undoubtedly due to the fact i have very low RAM (Not TTW, or CASM's fault), but i figured i would also suggest FNVincrementalsaver, since it does almost the same thing as CASM, but without the automated save, and one less plugin. Plus since i dropped CASM and now only use FNVincrementalsaver i found that fixed most freezing issues. (For me)

I have great results with CASM but also have plenty of RAM. I prefer CASM because of the automated saves (I'm terrible about making regular saves).


How many save files do you have in my documents/my games/fallout new vegas/saves?


I've noticed that having a LARGE amount of saves in there can actually cause issues. I keep mine trimmed to no more than 20 saves and keep backups in a separate folder if necessary.

Agreed, i trim mine down after i reach like 15 to 30 saves. (A guesstimate since i do it manually in game, when ever it feels right. ) It does seem to help.


I really miss CASM, but do to my 3 GB of RAM i had to drop it in order to stop my game from freezing in the CW. Damn cheap laptops... broken heart

Gone through all of the ttw mods, and I'm sure all of them are for the current version. Do 2.0 mods work with 2.2? If not that might be the problem.


FNVEdit isn't throwing up any big errors, lets me build a merged ptch without putting up a fight. Guess I'll scour it for every little thing though, seen as I'm still having problems.


Also, save folder is... huge. Mostly thanks to mod testing. I'll cut it down.


 


- no dice. Even if I disable all mods other than TTW, the problem persists. I've tried a full reinstall of NV, FO3 and TTW.


Well, damn. Not ruling out hardware failure at this point.


 


- should note that vanilla NV runs fine, no issues at all. Running TTW with no mods at all still causes the problems. Not blaming it, it's worked perfectly for me before and I've undoubtedly arsed something up on my end, but I just have no idea what it is.


Currently reinstalling FO3, then TTW. It's my last idea.
