I am having some trouble

Post by mablesable » Fri Mar 27, 2015 10:37 pm

I am having some trouble getting the game to run successfully. The first time I was able to get to the option menu where you select whether to start in DC or NV, and crashed a few moments after the intro film started. I added some mods when I first attempted it (YUP - nv version, WMX, USS Hoodwink).

I removed those mods and have only the TTW hotfixes/various fixes downloaded from this site along with the optional TTW plugins. The second time I ran the game I almost made it to the menu but soon crashed. My load order is currently like so:

Besides removing everything but the TTW hotfixes, optional plugins, and other fixes, I tried changing fnv4gb.exe properties to compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3), which I saw on another post, but when running it I get an error message that says:

Failed to launch fnv4gb.exe

The requested operation requires elevation

I also tried running the Fallout 3 1.7 update patch, but I get an error message that says:

The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\\Windows\\SYSTEM32\\xlive.dll

So I ran the xliveredist installer within the GFWLive folder in the Fallout 3 directory, thinking that it would put the DLL in there through the install prcoess, but I only have the option to remove it rather than repair or install it. The repair and install options were grayed out. I do not want to download a DLL from one of those websites that hosts them as I've found out that they aren't always good to use for security reasons.

I use/have:

GameCompanion

Fallout Mod Manager -fork version 0.14.11.12

Fallout 3 GOTY from Steam

Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition from Steam

Specs:

OS: Windows 8.1

Processor: Intel Core i5 4210M

Memory(?): 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3

I attached all of the available install logs I have at the moment.

Thanks to anyone willing to help me.

For starters, don't use YUP.  Since you have YUP loaded, did you read this verbatim? ...

Don't run FNV4GB in XP mode, whoever posted that is misinformed. It needs to be run in Admin mode, make sure you are using the updated version from me, or it may not work at all.

Sounds like you might need to do the multicore fix.

Don't patch the steam GOTY edition of FO3 it's already up to date, and you don't need GFWL at all.

I ended up reinstalling both FNV and FO3 only due to me using Optimizer Textures on FNV, and I wanted to start off on a clean slate. I think the multicore fix helped primarily, thank you.

Has anyone come across an issue of their pip-boy light not turning on when hitting the hotkey for it? When I try to turn on my pip-boy light, it makes the turn-on sound, but no light actually gets turned on, and the turn off sound doesn't play at all.

In my signature below there is a link titled "read before asking for help" go ahead and read that and get us the information there. If you have any questions (like how to find your load order) google can help and we can help if google isn't.

Nobody is trying to call you

Nobody is trying to call you an idiot and if it came across that way, I apologize.

You admit to not having much skill with a PC (which is perfectly fine) and then you say that the information isn't completely relevant. No offense intended, but, how would you even know?

We need the install log, as mentioned in the linked post. You clicked "Install" and that means it has created a log. That tells us how far it got and may tell us why it quit.

And no, no viruses to worry about, unless you downloaded the installer from somewhere other than here.

To be honest I always quit the game using the console command: qqq

It is much faster for me to quit like that cheeky
