Whats your favorite weather mod for TTW?

Post by EverChosen208 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 12:01 pm

I'm looking for opinions and suggestions on the best weather mod that can be used for TTW. I'm looking for something that allows me to control most if not all aspects of the weather to my liking and doesnt try too hard to be realistic by removing the 'falloutish' weather effects like the green storm over searchlight or pretty much any of the DLC.

I tried Nevada skies at first but it was a bit taxing on my system (that was before my ini optimization, might try it again). RWL worked pretty well but as said before tries to hard to be realistic and removes that special localized weather (and seems to turn the sierra madre orange??). URWLTTW doesnt have the best clouds imo and the lighting is a bit off for my taste.

Feel free to share your opinions on these mods and suggest others people may not have heard of! I need some info becuase I'm being waaaay too indecisive about this.

Last time I installed TTW, I used URWLTTW, Fellout, and a cloud replacer from the nexus. I also wrote a patch esp for URWLTTW that made rain and snow mildly radioactive.

Whats the reason for using those two mods together at the same time? And could you please send me a link to that cloud replacer?

Fellout is an exterior lighting mod that many people love (I certainly do). URWLTTW controls the weather. And I think the clouds were this one:

So fellout only affects lighting? I tried it before but the sun was so bright I couldn't even see it but that might be from my ini changes I did from the TTW streetlights thread.

Yeah, outdoor lighting and sky effects that aren't weather related, like sun glare. Really makes the game look good with no discernible performance drop. Weather mods WILL drop your performance, especially heavy rain. I lose maybe 10 to 20 FPS when it rains hard.

I really like URWLTTW, personally. Nevada Skies is a little too complicated for my tastes, Realistic Wasteland Lighting's night sky is WAY too dark, Fellout suffers from the same problem, and Project Reality MkI has a script bug that causes the FPS to tank after a while. I combine URWLTTW with DYNAVISION 3, and use the URWL Emittor settings in DYNAVISION 3 to make lights plenty bright and vivid.

Fellout for FO3 has a brighter nights patch. I didn't worry about it in TTW because there's tons of ways to see in the dark in vanilla FONV. I usually use Cateye until I get the Friend of the Night Perk (only takes PE 6/Sneak 30, so it's easy to get at a low level).

I've just started using URWLTTW again and I can now confidently say its the best weather mod out there after comparing with the others. Seeing as you two use it as well, do you know how to tell weathers apart in the control menu? They're all listed as either Var1, Var2 etc making it impossible to pick out my favorite weathers from the others

No idea - never looked into it beyond being able to hook into light/heavy rain/snow to set radiation levels. You might look at the scripts where it triggers the light/heavy rain/snow and work back to the vars. From what I remember, you should find the triggers for sand storms in there, too.
