L.O.O.T.

I run a fairly heavily modded version of TTW and a couple of days ago I started getting weird crashes where when I pulled up any kind of menu the game, while not actually crashing, would not allow me to select anything.  This included the pause menu and the pipboy, even dialog boxes.  In the case of the pipboy I couldn't unequip it.  It's fixed now.  All I did was let LOOT reorder my plugins (hadn't done it in a while) and it works fine now.

My question is, do you guys support LOOT?  I'm reading pros and cons as to the effect it has on putting together nominal load orders.  Some even go so far as to say you should keep running the old BOSS versions.  While I'm fairly certain it fixed my recent problem, some of its detractors claim it has no effect on performance or in extreme cases can do more harm than good.  I'm just wondering where the team stands on it for TTW?

Short answer, LOOT will almost always cause problems, especially with TTW. The same goes for BOSS, but even more so. You should not use either.

You should however, always keep your load order sorted correctly. This must be done manually.  A detailed guide to doing so can be found here.

The OP may care to throw his wandering eyes over this general guide for sorting a load order. LOOT and BOSS are not recommended as they do not support the core of TTW's load order.

Sorry, I guess I totally that but thanks all of you for answering my question for me.  Off to look at the guide (as I should have done long ago but was too used to the BOSS/LOOT programs to think I need to). wink

I will not use LOOT or BOSS for any Fallout Game, it's caused me more problems than benefit.

I'm just curious? What exactly does LOOT do that screws things up? I've used it in the past and have never had any issues that I'm aware of. I've recently been messing with it with FO4 as well with no known issues. But people keep saying that it causes more problems than benefits.

The only time LOOT worked is if I used the most popular mods and had a very very low mod count.    If you use mods they don't care about or in most cases, don't have time to add to the list and have a high mod count, then using FNVedit and batch patching produced a more stable game.  Most of the time when I used Loot or Boss, they didn't even know about the mod especially if I used F03 Converted Mods.

Well I usually always had a good number of mods though not excessively so and never had any issues. I generally ran mostly popular mods always updated to the latest versions. Games generally ran very stable for me or as stable as you can expect from the FO games.

The thing is that LOOT does not support us to be honest. At least last time I checked.
