TJ, sesom, this is the reason

TJsesom, this is the reason I don't publish finished work, but asking for help to build great software. Also I'm not modder to say what is exactly need.

I'm not designer, but can create rough design.

KeltecRFB, this is the best resource, but not for mods like MorePerksTTW which have special load/install order.

The biggest benefit that piqued my interest was admittedly the last one I listed: The ability to assist the user without actually having to assist the user on the forums / in the chatroom. If the program can tell you "Uninstall use MMUE" that's good. If it can inform you of the issues with Nevada Skies and download the patch automatically, that's even better.

A YUM mod tool would be cool

A YUM mod tool would be cool ... lol.   Powershell would be attractive, although I wouldn't make it command line unless you have good instructions.

undead4life, agree, but this

Post by kindom » Tue Aug 18, 2015 5:12 pm

undead4life, agree, but this is Windows environment, not Linux/BSD/Mac OS X most end users want to have GUI, but I prefer to have it at least scriptable thing like "Please, install this, this and that while I drink another cup of tea/coffee", then user will install all mods manually with preferred mod manager :-) Something like cygwin does. May be we want to have scriptable installator (I don't know if FOMM/NMM/MC support any scripted installs), but later, after this phase.

If we have some load order for some known mods and their versions, we can suggest install/load order for them.

TJ,

this is good idea to place this warnings into FOMOD.

But I want to have button "download Nevada Skies for TTW", and client will download Nevada Skies, patches, etc. It is not mod manager, it is helper to have own mod/patch server. I don't know if we have rights to repack and download pre-repacked mods. Also I don't know if we have place to store anything at one place.

A lot what you write in your list needs manual maintenance on the server side to be kept up to date. Mod devs are messy and the TTW crew is there no exception. Even if the files are uploaded to a fixed location every time (which btw. this isn't even true for TTW patches atm.) still you need people who maintain and check the stuff before you let it loose to the end user.

I understand you. Most

I understand you. Most software developers are messy too. So these part answers we can borrow.

There is a bit better situation with mods.

  1. Nexus provide good API for files, so we can automate process. File links http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/download/<FILE ID> are fixed and we can also take some meta information from Nexus

  2. Attached files will become part of this server

  3. We can provide links to manual downloads from Google/etc.

For all of this we can calculate checksums and our "patch info" can be in single place.

Also I ask question: How many TB of mods do we have now with external resources (Google/etc)?

OyabanKyuubi, I know this

Post by kindom » Thu Aug 20, 2015 7:12 am

OyabanKyuubi, I know this well as software development is my work. Because of this you accept License, EULA and all disclaimers. So almost all work we should do to avoid most problems is write correct description about purpose of this software, what it can and what it can not do and disclaimer about other things.

This work well enough to allow users to shoot themselves in the foot and report almost only on bugs.
