Seems like I've been thinking about/playing fallout too much. Started to have dreams about it again.
A solid dream plot though. Dreamt about a mechanic, a son of some US congressman in 2076-77, who worked the subways of Washington DC. He accidentally witnessed a meeting between his father and a senator affilated with the pre-war Enclave. They were discussing the nearest Vault being designed with killer bees in the vents, and how the construction of Enclave vault for the affilated beneath the Metro has been temporarily halted, due to some mole people seeing the construction crews. To prevent information leaks, the enclave decided on eradicating their population.
While trying to figure out what this information meant and use his database knowledge to find out more about the Enclave, he got noticed by the Chinese infiltrators, who wanted to know what he knows.
What followed was a terrifying game of cat and mouse between the mechanic and the two factions mentioned above, both of which were trying to capture him. The infiltrators provided ample opportunity for paranoia and dread, because of numerous Manchurian agents who seemed to be everywhere my dream character went.
At the same time the city balanced between a bright and shiny 60s nostalgia trip, and a police state with mass detainings, quarantines for New Plague victims, and lots of small riots breaking out, etc.
In a particular part of the dream, in line with how irregular or chaotic they can be, the whole plot halted, because my dream character decided to drink Nuka-cola, and immediately got sick and sent to the hospital. There my character was pumped full of meds to take down radiation poisoning from the cola, as per the general and accepted practice. The dream then became crazy again, and my dream avatar had to run away from the hospital to escape a rampage of terrifying soldiers in black power armor.
When the bombs started falling, the character led a number of rioters into the underground, where the Chinese were already fighting the Enclave for the bunker.
We somehow got into the bunker, and managed to close it in time. The dream gets fuzzy after that, because I remember both continuous fighting inside, as well as exploration of the now severely damaged bunker. I remember that in the end, maybe weeks later, my character had to crawl through some system of pipes, to be come the sole escapee of the bunker.
I woke up just as he was making his way topside. In the dream he didn't have any radiation protection (I think), so have no idea what would have happened next.

Wow, your dreams make better
Wow, your dreams make better main quest lines than Bethesda! That's always been my main complaint with the Bethesda games - the main quests (and some side quests) are just not very well written. I generally play the main quest once or twice, then spend years playing mod quests while ignoring the main quest. That was one thing NV had over the rest - far better writing, but then, it wasn't a Bethesda game.

Well, a dream has a benefit
Well, a dream has a benefit of being linear. Easier to direct.
But yeah. After this dream I feel that I wouldn't mind seeing a plotline in the pre-war Fallout.

Bethesda has the talent to
Bethesda has the talent to write well thought out games but I think the producers lack feelings and are more robotic than CD Projekt Red (Witcher Series), Damianwolff, and Obsidian. There are emotional similarities between Todd Howard and The Borg.
