Chinese Stealth Armor

Post by EnderDragonFire » Mon Oct 13, 2014 6:35 am

Balance aside, the lore clearly states that the Chinese had invisible armor, and that American stealth boys are based off that technology. The New Vegas version is a prototype, and therefore it does not need the stealth field, but the one in OA is an actual relic from the invasion of Anchorage, and therefore needs the field. The armor was overpowered, but that does not excuse throwing lore and logic out the window, as obsidian did. The right thing for them to do would have been to change how stealth fields work, so they are not exploitable, rather than retconing their own lore.

Actually Obsidian didn't put stealth fields in the FNV Stealth armors as a *hint* to an event (Hoover Sabotage) in the Van Buren canceled game:

"Presumably, these are the suits worn by the Chinese Infiltrators who were sealed inside Sub-level 1C during the Hoover Sabotage. Being an older model than those deployed in Anchorage and mainland China, this variant doesn't include the advanced stealth systems of the later models."

But to be honest I do not understand the reason for your post, are you just telling people your opinion or suggesting that TTW should have both armors instead of just the NV one, or any other reason? frown

Telling my opinion and suggesting that TTW have both armors, I guess. The main reason I posted, however, was that some people have suggested that the Anchorage version never existed, and that the stealth field was retconned. If this were true, it would break so much lore, because that would mean that stealth boys were based of off armor that was not stealthy.

hmmm that's actually a pretty compelling case, I think I agree. OA armor should still give stealth field (OP as it is) but should be considered a unique. Stealth suit mk2 or some such.

You could nerf it somehow,

You could nerf it somehow, such as making it appear in combat, like the Nightkin do, OR, you might could retain the lowered stealth bonus, 5 instead of 15, so that it is harder to exploit. I just want it to actually look like you are wearing the same thing that the dragoons wear in the simulation, not some prototype garbage. It is one of the most iconic things about the Chinese IMO, the only thing they were better at than America.

Why not just copy how Gopher

Why not just copy how Gopher's Advanced Recon Stealth Armor works?  You only get the stealth field while crouched, staying still, and aren't holding a weapon out.

Unique, no nerf. Unique will

Unique, no nerf. Unique will make it expensive to repair if it's given a high value.

But Jury Rigging negates that

But Jury Rigging negates that almost entirely. I agree no nerf though. Just make it unique and go with it.

I totally agree with Jax and Roy, it is not like the player is forced to use it, if you think it is OP, just raid the Dam for the prototypes.

On an unrelated topic, the community for this project is the best. I have never seen anywhere else that the developers will reply to forum posts. You guys (and gals?) are amazing.

Yeah I have to agree with it

Post by Risewild » Mon Oct 13, 2014 11:01 pm

Yeah I have to agree with it too, to be honest I haven't played OA for quite a while (I don't like OA) so I didn't know that the armor there wasn't the one from FO3 OA DLC. cheeky
