I LOVE this thread, even though it had the very expected prognosis.  I'm fine with just creating the environments, and then creating the world as we would interpret it to be in the year 2287.  We could just use the official cannon endings for each game.

@Risewild If you take DUST

Post by zilav » Tue Dec 01, 2015 7:33 pm

@Risewild If you take DUST like approach for converted FO3 and FNV environments like I mentioned, there will be no Enclave in power armors. You will decide where, how and what to place in the world laugh The same with New Vegas and card games - they are not needed. It could be just overrun with raiders or mutants for example.

Dialogues, scripts and quests are like 70% of convertion. If you decide straight up to ignore them and build your own storyline later, the TT(three)W could be done in a reasonable time span I believe. I think people will enjoy even just building their own settlements in familiar places from previous games, defend them and explore environment for materials and loot. Or maybe I'm wrong.

I personally think that would be interesting to play through. Some new quests could be created to demonstrate what happened between the events in FO3, FNV, and when the character thawed out in Boston.

If it was even possible to remake FO3 and FNV in FO4 the only way I could see it working from a story standpoint is if your character from FO3/FNV was a companion for your new character in FO4. Any other way it could be done would require gutting big sections of the story to somehow make FO3 and FO4 come together and make any sense at all.
Speaking as an end user, I'm not really thrilled with the idea of propping FO3/NV up on FO4's rails. I'm more interested in mods for FO4 which make the experience closer to the older games, but I don't like a lot of what was added to the new game - and especially what was taken away.
This would be propping FO4 up with F3/NV, for sure.

@Tawa: Thank you for that. I did not know of it's existance.

For texture conversions, I just saw this today. It seems like it puts dx9 to dx10+ normal map conversions into actions in PS. It seems like that would be easier than the current methods. Though I am not experienced with texture work, and I would guess that each normal map would still have to be loaded into PS manually, unless it could be automated, but I'm not an expert on how that would be done.
