Not excited? Sure would the existence of something like that exciting, interesting and great. But let's be serious here. Is the making of new animations, all scripts, quests, new meshes,... exciting?

Nope it isn't it's hard work, very hard work. Only to hear after you finished such a gigantic task... "why doesn't have the player a voice he does in FO4. So he has to have one in Tales of three Wastelands too" ...

Excitement doesn't do the work, it helps, but sorry I think such a project is unrealistic simply because of the shear amount of work.

let's also be honest, if we wanted to start work, we probably wouldn't be doing anything other than personal projects along those lines until all the dlcs are out, the game's fully updated, as many bugs and stability issues as possible have already been cleaned by beth, we get a lifetime supply of jimmy johns' sandwiches, and all this won't be for a few years after initial release.

and if we were planning on stopping work when fo4 came out to work on t3w, we'd probably have mentioned it already

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.

I'm gonna play FO4, and maybe mod it too. But I think I will mostly stay to TTW and modding this game because of how much enjoyment I get from it.

That was exactly what I meant when I posted the giant wall of text with pics cheeky, it might be possible to do, but it will require a much bigger team, way more motivation and hard work and take a lot more time. And after that people would come by and complain about the voices like Sesom said (there are people these days that do not use mods just because they are not voiced, imagine two full games and dlcs not having a main character voiced).

Also remember that making TTW took converting 1 game to be playable using another game's engine (and both games used the same engine with just a few changes), to make T3W one would have to convert 2 full games that run on a different engine.

TTW took 3 to 4 years to reach where we are now, to make the T3W would take way longer, and as Puppettron mentioned, we would have to wait till all the dlcs are released and the final patch for the game was released and all of that before we could even start working on it seriously.

I would love to see it happen, and would love to be part of the team that makes it happen, but I see it as it is and not as I want it to be, it will be impossible to make it a reality in less than 15-20+ years without a team of at least 20-30+ really dedicated and motivated people with a lot of time to spend on doing this.

Who's we? The TTW team are still on the fence about T3W, leaning toward "not happening".

I think that having a little of Fallout 4 flavor added to TTW would be nice enough without conflicting with anything.

Besides all of the myriad technical reasons why Tale of Three Wastelands is virtually impossible, yes storyline would be a another major problem.

Just a thing to think about, you all realize that like Thermador said "Besides all of the myriad technical reasons why Tale of Three Wastelands is virtually impossible" (read that at least ten times so you realize that it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE) and vmontanari realization "the chronology seems to be a problem and a solution at the same time, because FO4 happens before in history them FO3 and FNV", there is the fact that many players are saying that FO4 is missing many cool things that FNV and or FO3 has, like for example:

  • No ammo types

  • No hardcore mode

  • No ammo reloading bench

  • No weapon and armor degradation

  • Etc (I am pretty sure there are other stuff, but since I don't have FO4 I don't know about them yet)

FO4 also has stuff that are not in FO3 and FNV like:

  • Voiced main character

  • Only four dialogue options (can be fixed by using one or more of the options to open new ones, but that will just make it a chore to see all the dialogue choices in some FNV and FO3 dialogues)

  • Super customization of some armor and weapons

  • Pretty much any junk you find can be broken down into material for construction/crafting

  • Boss and legendary enemies

  • Legendary equipment

  • By what I heard .dds files are different and behave different (so much that the tools we have at the moment to deal with older .dds files do not work at all with the new ones)

  • No more .bsa files (replaced with .bs2 files or something like that, that seem to be a bit different)

  • Different Scripting language

  • Power armors are parts now

  • Settlements

  • Different engine (FNV used the SAME engine as FO3 just a bit polished, FO4 uses a DIFFERENT engine, may look like the same but more polished but it actually is different)

  • Etc

I mentioned before, TTW is being in production for 4 years or maybe a bit more if we count the grandaddy Requiem for the Capital Wasteland, it has a dedicated team with some of the best modders around working (or that worked) on it, it was "just" porting one game that share the same engine into another one and then "polish" the result and add a "few" made from scratch things like some recipes and harvestables. We didn't have to remake every single texture in FO3 and DLCs (again I mention that .dds files are different now and even if they weren't the old TTW textures couldn't keep a candle with the FO4 ones), we didn't have to rewrite from scratch every single script, every single quest, we didn't have to make every single map either, we didn't have to make every single 3d model for pretty much any object and architectural thing that do not exist in FO4 (I am sure anyone would notice old models looking ugly and "pointy" and some users would have the immersion broken for them), we wouldn't have to remake all the power armors in TTW to be like they are in FO4 (also wouldn't it be unbalanced if the player had to fight against an entire faction using advanced PA if PA works like it does in FO4?).

Tl;dr: TTW took 4 years to make and it is still not complete, T3W would take around 10x than that (40 years, which is probably around 2 times longer than many TTW users have been alive) if it is even possible to make.

There are too many things

Post by EnvyDeveloper » Thu Nov 12, 2015 11:20 am

There are too many things removed in Fallout 4, which were present in Fallout 3 and NV. Also, the engines are too different.

Look at Skyblivion. So many things would need to be recreated, like NPC faces, armors and quests. Spellmaking and enchanting would need to coded in, to make it more like Oblivion's.

It's pretty easy to RP the same character across several Bethesda games, heck, I use the same character for Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. You just need to use imagination. ;)

Fallout 4 Takes place in 2287 if I'm not mistaken, placing it after both previous games.

I probably came across more harshly than I intended. We get that question a lot, and it's a big question. I'm not flat out saying no work is being done, but right now for all intents and purposes no work is being done. There are technical hurdles we haven't found ways around yet, namely the dialog for starters.
