Pirated Games

Post by AbitConfused » Thu Oct 09, 2014 1:31 am

In the download section it was made clear that this mod was designed specifically to not work for pirated games. As the creators, you are obviously within your rights to make whatever decision you deem right in regards to piracy. I purchased both games with all DLC several years ago for Xbox 360. Now, I want to play the games on PC because I gave up completely on consoles a while back (although I still own both the console and the games). If I have no other choice I suppose I will just buy them both, again for PC, but I'd really rather not because that's exactly why I stopped playing on Xbox in the first place (besides not being able to play awesome mods like this one). I can't afford to buy every game twice, so what I want to know is this: is it possible for me to get a workaround for pirated games if I can prove I own the physical copies as well? Or is there some reason I haven't thought of that you want to prevent this sort of thing from happening? Please respond as respectfully as I have asked.

EDIT: I want to make it very clear that if the answer to this is "Go buy them on steam" then I will do that. But it will take me some time and some money that I'd rather not part with for a second time. And I'd have to wait for the winter sale, which is lame.

If TTW didn't enforce the rule stating only legit games are allowed to be used, then it's likely Bethesda's lawyers would have some nasty words for them, and might even risk having the entire project shut down. So, your only option is to buy the game, yes it sucks buying it twice, but IMO, the move to PC is worth it. I had to rebuy a LOT of games on my PC after I made the switch from 360, including DLC's for my favorite games.

No offense, but you aren't going to receive any help at all trying to circumvent the anti-piracy in TTW's installer. Do the right thing, buy the games. TTW is more than worth what it costs to purchase both games and their DLC's, the team has done an excellent job.

When you buy a game, you're buying it *for a system.* You're buying a license, to be more precise. That license entitles you to various things which usually take place on a single system or console. PCs are a little more lenient as it becomes harder to track as it's distributed to various others due to duplication (aka, piracy). That said, TTW already toes the line as it is. TTW doesn't directly distribute files from F3 but it does, in a sense, reverse engineer F3 to apply towards NV.

Respectfully put, the creators are trying to keep this site UP and RUNNING without the fear of possible additional reprisal by Beth/Obsidian.

Thank you for the response. I knew about licenses, but had not applied that information in this context. I agree that what you are saying makes sense, but it is a shame because when I bought the games I did not realize this nor was I informed of it. My understanding at the time was that I was buying the game itself, and that it was simply marketed for 360 because you can't make a physical copy of a game that can work on any system.  I suppose I'll go ahead and buy em for PC then in a few months. Thanks again.

EDIT: While I was replying to the second comment, both of your replies were helpful and logical. Good to see things from other perspectives.

More or less what they said.

More or less what they said. Beth's EULA expressly states that their content from FO3 cannot be used in FNV. The only reason they ignore our existance is bacause we do strictly enforce the 'you HAVE to own both games on PC' thing and because we produce a tool that allows *you* to insert *your* FO3 content in *your* FNV game. Nothing more. As stated above in the end you will find the cost of purchase (which runs from 40 for both games GOTY/Ultimate to as low as 10 during sales) more than worth it because a) it shows Bethesda a continued interest in Fallout and b) TTW is a damn fine game, and is far more stable/ less buggy than FO3 at the very least and quite possibly FNV as well.

Well, if you can't afford $40 for both full games ($20 each) you'll just have to wait for a 75%-off sale and get them both for $10.  Dollars per hour, even at $40, it's probably the cheapest entertainment you can get besides a library card.

I'm happy to see that you can be reasoned with. When you are able to purchase both games, an epic mod awaits you. I can't play vanilla Fallout 3 anymore, it's so much better in the New Vegas engine, and like I said before, the team has done a great job fixing up bugs and making it as stable as possible.

I hope you're able to get the games soon and join this community, it really is great here. Have an early welcome to TTW from me! :)

I would say that if you gave up on console gaming then you should try and sell your console and games and use the money to get your favorite games for the PC smiley.

Sales are your friend. The Xmas sale is coming up soon (if we don't get a fall sale) and if previous trends are anything to go by the games will be offered at crazy low prices. IMO waiting to play TTW is nothing but good as it just gives us more time to add awesome content.

No matter how you look at it, $10 to $20 is a deal since it would cost over $200 if you purchased everything new and the Dev Team placed a price tag on TTW!
