A lore friendly TTW

Post by Courier23 » Fri May 16, 2014 5:12 pm

Hi. I'm new to this community and recently started playing around with G.E.C.K.

I came up with an idea to implement in TTW to make the mod (and actually the photo of James in vault 21) lore friendly.

The addition would be as following: In either Megaton or Rivet City there will be a man, Mr. Weintraub, who turns out to be James' only brother, who used to work for the Mojave Express. He has a final job to do: Delivering a package to Mr. House in the Lucky 38. However, due to his physical conditions he is unable to go there and asks you to go in his place.

After talking to this Mr. Weintraub he will give you the package, a quest will start telling you to head to the train station.

I would like to know what you all think of this idea and I'm completely open criticism. Also, I'd need a voice actor to actually make this because I'm Dutch and can only speak with a British accent.

How is that lore friendly?

How is that lore friendly? Not knocking your idea but I think it needs some explanation.

The courier doesn't become

The courier doesn't become hired by the Mojave Express to deliver a package to House until after a period of years before the events of New Vegas, in which time we know the courier visits the Divide as well as New Reno.

This is the rationale for having a full nine years elapse after taking the train to the Mojave. Crafting a story in which the Lone Wanderer/Courier is hired by the Mojave Express before the rest of the backstory of New Vegas takes place would seem to be break lore.

You actually finish Weintraub

You actually finish Weintraub's job, taking his place. So the 'Courier' is Mr. Weintraub. Obviously if the wanderer wouldn't take his uncle's place, he would just be a normal guy and Mr. House wouldn't invite him into the Lucky 38.

According to the Fallout wikia, Mr. House hasn't found the chip yet in 2280, but when he does,  he orders the Mojave express to bring it back.

I think this might probably break the lore. Just a little bit.

Part of what TTW does is rectify the Lone Wanderer becoming the Courier. Mods that do something else, what you have in mind are welcome, naturally but this is how lore has been handled thus far in TTW.

This is my opinion and in no way I am bashing your idea (I actually like how many people have ideas to make the player assume the role of Courier and I would love mods of all of them laugh ).

I don't understand why it would be more lore friendly having a brother of James travel to the Mojave without the train (since the DC train station is in lockdown mode since the bombs fell), have time to do all of the things that the courier did before the start of Fallout New Vegas (like Tricky said, founding the Divide and visiting New Reno but there is also in game references of the Courier being in Utah, Circle Junction, Fort Abandon, and that the courier also went on Brahmin Rides at the Big Circle which is a route between several settlements including Broken Hills, New Reno, Redding, the Den, Modoc, Vault City and sometimes Gecko and to finish there is a dialog in Fallout New Vegas that implies that the Courier impregnated (or believes he impregnated) a woman in Montana around 18 years ago) and then still has time to return to the Capital Wasteland with the Platinum Chip and give it to the Lone Wanderer. Also the Platinum Chip that the Courier carries before the start of Fallout New Vegas was picked up at Primm (as said to the player by Johnson Nash, the Primm supervisor of the Mojave Express) so how can our character have the Platinum Chip being given by James brother and then the Fallout New Vegas game tell you that your character actually got the Platinum Chip from Primm when the first courier (Ulysses) refuses to accept the job so our character does it (which is an essential part of the whole plot of the Lonesome Road and Ulysses story and spans from the vanilla Fallout New Vegas and continues through all of the DLC's until it ends on the last one, Lonesome Road).

Again I would love to see your suggestion being built as a TTW mod laugh I love alternate ways of placing the player as both Lone Wanderer and Courier. I just don't think it is more lore friendly that what TTW has at the moment (for all the reasons I mentioned before).

And welcome around the Site and the TTW community yes.

The main problem with this, other the continuity, is you're setting it up for the Courier to fuck their cousin.
